  • Actually it's Chinese
    1 Dollar (Yuan)
    1914
    0.8900 Silver
    There are 6 varieties.

Check the edge for either vertical reeding , circles, alternating T's or plain.

Value in VF is anywhere from $12- $80, depending on edge.

    Oh yeah nice find.image
  • Pardon me, not Chinese, but Taiwanese.

Man is correct. This piece is Chinese.

Taiwan was not an independent state, de facto or otherwise, when these coins were minted. In fact, Taiwan was a Japanese colony and not even a part of China at this time.

The portly gent is Yuan Shikai, president of the republic and imperial hopeful, among amnong other things.

If I remember correctly, although the coin is dated 1914, these were minted into the 1920's. Is this correct?

  • baddspellar great link.

BoxTopp according to Krause the vertical reeding is the least valuable :
    VG.......F.......VF.......XF.......UNC
    2.25..7.00..12.00..15.00..25.00

baddspellar collects Chinese coins, and BoxTopp doesn't collect this chinese coin. image I think the two should talk.
