Does not meet minimum size requirements??

My freebie grades just popped. Overall, I am fairly happy as I got back a dead centered mint 9 1977 Dave Kingman and 8's on a 77 Staub and Harrah when I was expecting 6's or 7's.

However, my favorite card of all time and one that I bought as an 8 year old in 1980, the Topps Gretzky rookie, came back not holdered due to it not meeting the minimum size requirement. How could that be?

Should I try to send it in again and hope for a different result? I doubt the little mom and pop store I bought it from in 1980 did anything to the card and I know I haven't.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

PSA is very tough on size requirements. In my opinion too tough since I've seen variation in cards of up to 1/16" in either direction.

I would try to send to another service like GAI.

min size does not mean it was trimmed.

it means that from the factory...............

You could call and request they use the mylar inside the slab and then maybe they will grade it.

    Good for you.
  • give it another shot at PSA, you get your grading fees returned if it comes back as not meeting size requirements. So keep sending it in til they holder it.

Like others said, that doesn't mean it's trimmed. I can pretty much guarantee you beckett will grade it if psa won't, but I'd try psa again if that's your preference. Also, if this is for re-sale, beckett is the only other company I would try.
  • If PSA has absolutely no reason not to believe that the card came from the Topps factory in the condition in which they see it, I guess I don't see why they don't holder it.

After all the discussions over time about card trimming, how does one enlarge a card?? Hang it upside down from monkey bars??
