Arny> I'd guess I have 100+ different submittable 85 Leaf. I'm sure we can work something out whether I send you raw to submit on your own or if you have me submit them. They're almost all commons.
That should be a sweet set if you pursue it.I personally think that Donruss 84 & 85 are the best of the 80s.You will have fun with the challange of putting it together because of the black borders but it will be a blazer when you finish it.
<< <i>I also noticed the set hasnt been weigthed yet, anyone wanna help me do that ?? >>
I was wondering about this . . . I'd like to see this set weighted, but I'm new enough to the registry that I'm not really sure how sets get weighted. I gather that we can submit ideas/suggestions to PSA and they make their own changes as they see fit . . . is that correct? Also, recently there was a poll on the boards asking about possibly tying the card weights to the SMR and increasing the weight scale up to 20. Anyone know how that's going to end up?
If we did try to get this set weighted do you think it would end up something like this?:
Clemens 10 Puckett 8 Rose (both) 6 Ryan 4 Ripken 2 Mattingly 2 Everybody else 1
I would love to see this set weighed as well...I would think all superstars/HOFs would need a min. weight of at least 2.0...also key RCs like Dwight Gooden, Eric Davis and Bret Saberhagen to name a few would need to higher weights than 1.0
without SMR prices this proess will be subjective...
perhaps someone that had a part in weighing the 1984 Donruss set could offer some insight in any guidelines that was used with that set...
It's nice to see so many other Donruss fans here. My second life as a BBC collector began in 1981 with some Topps racks as an Easter gift. I was intrigued by the new Donruss company that year and ended up collecting those and Topps primarily up until 1991. I've got 3 1981 raw Donruss sets, 1 each of the 1982 and 1983 sets (which I can't seem to locate at the moment), 2 '84D, 2 '85D, 1 '86D, 2 '87D (1 hand-collated and 1 factory), and beau coup sets of the '88-'91 years.
The '84 set is my favorite because of the great design and shot selections. The '81 set is a sentimental favorite -- it's got one of my favorite Carew cards (with George Brett). It also has the Tim Raines rookie. I had the pleasure of watching the late 70's Denver Bears teams when they were the farm team for the Expos. They had some great players at the time -- Raines, Tim Wallach, Randy Bass, etc. I remember staying after a game and getting Billy Gardner's autograph on a '62T card. I sat next to his daughter (Shelly) during one game and fell in love with her and her long blond hair. That was the last time I ever saw her unfortunately.
I've got lots of extra raw cards if anyone is trying to complete any of the above-mentioned sets...
We went through the process of re-weighting the '84 Donruss set based on common players (no matter what pop numbers were) at a 1.00. From there, the 'star' cards were weighted at 1.50 or higher based on the hobby popularity of the players involved. For instance, the Mattingly '84 Donruss card is obviously the most sought after card from the set. Therefore, we weighted that one at a 10 rating. Then, we figured that the Joe Carter rookie, Nolan Ryan & Cal Ripken cards were the 2nd tier of most sought after. We put those at a 5 weight. You just simply utilize common sense in most cases. For instance, the Andy Van Slyke, Tony Fernandez & Julio Franco rookie cards in the '84 Donruss aren't the most popular cards in the set, but they are definitely 'minor star' rookies that deserve a little more than the 1.00 that you would give a common. Thus, the 1.5 weight for those would apply.
For the '85 set, I would think that the Saberhagen, Gooden & E.Davis would fall into this sort of category. Either a 1.5 or 2.0 would certainly apply to those guys.
We have yet to send our reweighting proposal to PSA, but that will actually go out shortly as I've been the holdup on the process. Although, it will be sent to PSA today. If you need any specific advice, I would be more than willing to help.

I am in the process of re-weigthing the 85 Topps set ( I mean c'mon they have Clemens at a 4 in the set) The problem is with the Clemens and Mcgwire being so dominating in the set it is very difficult to weigh the other cards. I have even went to .25 differences on some cards. Right now I have Clemens and Mcgwire at 10 with Puckett at 5 and then it gets difficult. The Rayns, Rose,Ripken, Mattingly, Boggs, Gwynn, Sandberg, Henderson, cards would be the next level then you have some minor stars for this set like seaver,schmidt,sutton,etc.. That would be next, then you also have to figure out where to put Gooden,Strawberry, Carter, etc. If anyone can help me out with some suggestions I would much appreciate it !
Hi Guys, I have been having great fun working on the two beautiful 1984 and 1985 Donruss sets. They really bring back the memories of some high quality baseball. I am collecting all of the Hall of Famers along with some favorite players from these years. I decided to focus on PSA 9s for almost all of the cards. I have received a bunch of help from veterans of these sets. Many have posted to this very thread. Here is an updated wantlist for both sets. I would be looking to buy only PSA 9s except for a few cards that I have noted. If anyone has any for sale - let me know. You can pm me or email me at nbdowney@msn.com - Thanks for looking, Neil

Hi Guys, I looked over the raw cards that I intend to use in my raw/graded set today. I discovered some that I didn't like much. These cards were either off centered too much or had some nasty chipping along an entire edge. I'd like to replace them with well centered cards that look nicer than these. I have no intention of grading these cards but I suppose I would be looking for PSA 8 quality with no wax backs and nice centering. If anyone can help me, that would be great. PM me or email me with a list of which cards you have and we can work out a price from there. I do have some raw star cards to trade if anyone would rather trade for these cards. I need the following list of cards. Thanks for looking, Neil
Hi Guys, I have decided to not enhance my 1985 Donruss set with PSA graded cards. The only ones that I will get in PSA holders will be the Puckett and Clemens. I need both of them in my raw set so buying PSA 8 versions will not cost much more than raw ones. I now have 14 different PSA 9 NQ 1985 Donruss cards for sale or trade. All prices include shipping. If anyone is interested in any, let me know.

Hi Guys, I still have 7 PSA 9 1985 Donruss cards left for sale or trade if anyone is interested. I would be willing to sell them or trade them for well centered PSA 9 1984 Donruss cards or well centered PSA 8 1984 Topps Giants cards. Let me know what you have for trade. Thanks, Neil
