Anyone use this type of strategery(my W quote)?

I lost an auction the other night for an Emmitt Smith card. The seller sent me a second chance offer ( I would assume they have lots of the same card) seconds after the auction ended. It was sent by/through ebay so its nothing under-handed. So I got the same card at a lower price then what the person who won the auction did. I thought, thats great, I lost but really I won. Anyway I bid on another one of their auctions, the same guy outbid me again and I get another second chance offer. I think I will try to come in second on this sellers auctions from now onimage

I might be wrong, but I don't think what the seller is doing is within ebay's rules. He is essentially circumventing ebay's fees. But I don't necessarily understand "2nd chance" offers. And I'm not just saying this because I'm bitter about the Cowboys.

It think ebay has a tool for sellers that they can send these second chance offers. It was sent through ebay with a note saying that it is within the guidlines of the ebay rules. If you think about it ebay is making additional money when the second chance offer is completed.

the only problem with this scenario is that you may get what you pay for. Centering may be an issue.

If the 2nd chance offer came from ebay then the seller will pay ebay "final value" fees for that transaction. There are a few issues with this scenario:
a)centering or other issues making the 2nd chance card inferior to the auctioned(pictured) card.
b)the cynical issue(this just wouldn't be the PSA boards without one)...the high-bidder is/was a shill account and just wanted to see your high bid and either drive you up, out or get you to rebid higher.

If the card arrives and all looks legit, then it sounds like you got a great deal! I hope that's how it works out for you!

There is also a chance that you are being shilled. I'd confirm the serial number that is going to be shipped your way and if it is the same as the auction, don't pay more than the third highest bidder.
