An ebay first...

for me anyway. I was bidding on an auction for a psa10 Deion Sanders rc (Score football) and I received an email from ebay this morning saying the auction has been cancelled due to the sellers ebay account being suspended. I jsut thought that was kinda funny and they must have done something pretty bad.

I was bidding on the same auction!!! I wasn't sure what the reason was that the auction was cancelled. Very interesting.

  • Damn, me too, but this wasn't the first time for me. Don't worry guys, I would have won it anyways with the snipe I had set to go off. I might have ended up paying way too much if someone else did the same thing, but I doubt it.

A suspended acct. usually involves an adminstrative problem. The seller may owe some ebay fees, or the CC on file has expired.

It's funny, ebay will suspend a seller nearly instantly when they are late paying the $$$. Yet, a seller with private feedback, selling trimmed or altered cards all day wiith a private auction can remain active indefinitely.

I was NARU'd for the last 2 months because I owed $321 in sellers fees. I finally paid that and just listed 90 more auctions. As long as ebay is getting paid, I don't think they really care what people are doing. (Aside from selling guns, children or kidneys)

The seller probably just owed fees or something. Although, unresolved complaints, multiple offenses of shilling or something or bad contact info can all be grounds for a short term suspension. I would imagine you'll see the seller back online in a very short time. If it's 48 hours or more, it may have been a violation. If it's a day, then it was probably fee related. You can ask the seller, some are forthright (to a fault in some cases).

I've noticed a lot more of that lately, even from full-time dealers who would presumably be able to pay their fees. Either it's a coincidence, or ebay is starting to crack down on things like shill bidding. In most cases, the account is active again about a month later. I think that's the standard suspension.

I doubt it is because of shill bidding. I just started buying some coins and just happened to be interested in a few auctions by one particular seller and saw that the same guy with ZERO feedback was the current high bidder on both auctions. After looking at this guys buying history, I saw where he has been a registered member for nearly 7 months and has only bid on 7 items, all buy the same seller and has won two of them, but neither he or the seller left feedback for the other since that would be too obvious.

I reported this to ebay, got the standard auto-response and nothing ever happened, he now has more auctions running and guess who is the high bidder right now? Yep the same guy, still with ZERO feedback
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • A guy at my office was selling some Cards playoff tickets and another guy in the office put a low bid in, just being stupid, really. He was outbid almost immediately. I guess eBay compared the IP addresses of the two accounts used for the listing and the bidding and ended up suspending them both for several weeks until it was straightened out. And here I thought eBay was irresponsible...
