tobacco card question

I've collected some tobacco card topps buybacks. Two of the cards are in great condition and looks like ex or a little better (I think). I've seen a couple like the ones I have. These cards I saw on ebay graded PSA 5 and I think my cards are a little better than that. If I decided to sell them as buyback I don't think I'll get good $ compared if is in a graded slab. Should I break the seal and have them graded or leave it in the buyback case? Is it ok to submit to GAI? They're the only one who attends card show here in westchester, NY.

  • Personally, I'd crack and submit to SGC. Their reputation for vintage is top notch.

Actually, there seem to be a lot of buyback collectors who pay a sizeable premium for T cards in the Topps sleeve - or at least a premium for stuff in VG or lesser condition. If the card would land a grade of 4 (or 50 if you're an SGC afficionado), it'd probably be close to a wash in terms of selling it slabbed vs. selling it in the Topps sleeve. I haven't seen many EX or better T cards in the buyback frame, but if it really is 5 worthy, it'd probably be worth de-sleeving and submitting it.
