Gunk on a 1921-D VAM 2B

This is a circulated 1921-D VAM 2B. It's covered in residue from a prior cleaning, dipping, or something. The only thing I've ever tried on my coins is acetone. I soaked it for 4 days, rinsed, new acetone for 3 days, rinsed, new acetone for 3 more days. Is this crap ever going to come off? It's a VF/XF coin and I only paid $8, so I'm willing to try almost anything. Any ideas? I'd prefer not to destroy it, but I'm just about ready to tie it to the water freshener hanging in the toilet bowl.

Try one of those pressurized steam cleaners like the kind they sell on TV. It'll cost a little under a hundred but you could always clean & sanitize your kitchen & bathroom too.

Better yet, buy one for your mom, wife, sister, or girlfriend for x-mas and then just use it on the coin.
