Info on bad Ebay transaction

I bought a 1960 Koufax from an ebay seller with the seller name "cardboardtraders". When the card arrived it clearly was trimmed when we compared it to other 1960 Topps. I contacted the seller through ebay twice informing him that the card was trimmed and requesting a refund but never heard back. I know from what I've read on these boards that you should never deal with a seller whose feedback is private - but it seemed like a good deal and now I know why. Anyway for the information of the board members the seller info is cardboardtraders and the mailing address is: Valrey Sports, P.O. Box 2806, Downey, CA 90242. At least we have a trimmed 1960 Koufax out of circulation.

If you paid via paypal you have a shot at getting the 33.00 back.
if not chalk it up to experience.

This BOZO did send me a card ( a 75 Topps Mini common) but it was not a 72 Bench card. After I checked his feedback this seems to be his modis operendi.
I was able to get a refund via PAYPAL after he never responded to my complaint. ( if he had sent the card with delivery confirmation he could have gotten away with it!)
I contacted another buyer who won a card the same day I did.....This buyer also never got his card.

for laughs i e-mailed him asking for the cert# to the Namath he is selling. Amazing how many refunds this guy has given back with no delivery and yet ebay has not knocked him off of the site.
<< <i>It is concerning to see these sellers with descent feedback ratings ripping people off. Their numbers don't look bad and you still can't trust them. What is considered a reliable feedback rating? How many sales? What percent positive? What do you guys use? >>
I think anything below 99.0 is not good!! 99.0-99.5 questionable....

The card looks very trimmed in the scan. It takes some training and getting burned to identify this. As others have said private feedback is a big red flag. If a card looks really good, is not slabbed, plus the pf, it's a no good. Try through PayPal for a refund, maybe he won't respond through the dispute process. If he does though you are out $33. He sent the card and only claimed to be authentic. Didn't say unaltered. Another red flag, subtle yet a huge tip off. Sorry this happened to you. It has happened to me, but I think I usually was able to get a refund, but still a pain in the rear. I chalk it up to a learning experience and being a little more card savy from it.

I have wondered about this. Say I purchase a high dollar card on ebay. I pay with paypal, insurance, the whole works. My package comes in, complete with delivery confirmation. I open it up to find a 1984 topps Nick Esasky!! What would my options be? Can't the seller say he sent me the right card and I switched it on him? If he used delivery confirmation he could prove to paypal the item had been sent.
I realize a seller probably couldn't do this more than a time or two before paypal finds out, but this is a scam I have been afraid would start going around.
Can anyone set my mind at ease and tell me why this wouldn't work???

Unfortunately, this scam could work and I have read where it has happened. Perhaps literally videotaping yourself opening up the package and displaying the contents to the camera would clearly prove the scam to a judge.
I talked with a paypal rep about this earlier in the year. If you have reason to suspect a seller might be shipping you something other than what you paid for (in my case I had already filed a chargeback against the seller for non-delivery), you can open it in the presence of a postal worker. The rep told me the burden of proof is really on the seller, though.
I searched my new SMR in hopes of finding a new categoy for "1960 Topps - Trimmed" with a listing for Koufax at $33.00, but did not see it.
Thanks again.
