Have commemorative half dollars ever had any influance in mintage numbers of regular half dollars???

This question raised to me a few minutes ago when looking at some commemoratives....

If yes, in what years???

    Probably not immediately but any one that circulated would have led a regular
    issue not to be minted. While many of these saw some circulation only the Col-
    umbian saw widespread circulation.

    Would the US mint have any higher mintages when the commemoratives weren't minted?? Or were they just minted for the $$$$??

    After the Columbian Exposition closed, a large number of unsold commemorative half dollars were released into circulation at face value. I'm sure that this reduced the number of half dollars that needed to be struck that year.

    Probably not, though some effect was possible back in the 1890's when the excess Columbians were released into circulation.
