  • oh no!!! I am going to have to build a master set of this probably!!! I went crazy and built a PSA graded set, use to be #5 for masters on the registry, but might have dropped. Once I got done with the master set, I made a raw set. This is probably my favorite design of all time.

How much are Hobby boxes going for???

  • This set is great and the price is right. It's not everyday you can find auto'd cards of hall of famers in their college uniforms. Except for a couple of a the major players, putting together the auto set should be relatively inexpensive. I've scooped up a 1/4 the set so far, but now the remaining auto's i need seem to be quickly drying up.

  • This is one of the coolest products to come out this year (Actually for a while). I busted one hobby box and one of the cheap retail 8 pack retail boxes....

The hobby box netted a Danny Wuerffel and Troy Aikman autograph and the usual 4 chrome cards #ed to 555 which were Barry Sanders,Wuerffel,Mike Singletary, and Bubba Smith.....The retail box netted a Steve Bartowski chrome as well as a Mean Joe Greene Gold Refractor Chrome #36/55.

  • The shop owner snatched the Wuerffel up as soon as I pulled it for one of the FL collectors.....I think for now I will hold the Aikman, if I decide to let it go I will let you know

Nice cards. I bought a Retired Box today. There were several chrome cards in there as well as a Lawrence Taylor Gold Chrome Refractor (38/55) and an autographed Bruce Mathews Chrome Refractor (16/55). I wonder what these things are worth? I am going to go check Ebay to see. The signed Mathews card is really nice I must admit and I don't usually like modern stuff.

I have duplicates of most of the set...I was able to get two complete sets out of what I opened...so the rest can be traded away.

I did see this set and it looks great.

I've seen a bunch of ebay auctions for sets of cards 1-91 but the set numbers to 100 (like the original). Are the cards 92-100 short prints? Any other SP's?
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
    there are no 92-100 cards

  • tkd7tkd7 Posts: 1,799 ✭✭
thanks. i saw a press release on the topps website that listed 100 cards.

  • I had to search around the "greater Los Angeles" area to find a shop that had any. I have seen some retail boxes on ebay, and didn't want someone to pull a fast one on me. Well I have some boxes on order now, at $90 a piece. Probably a bit high, but maybe not horrible.

According to the checklist that comes with the box, the set has 91 cards.

Just found a great deal on ebay. Bought a hobby box for $50. Hope it shows up.

Seller seems to have more if anyone is interested.

Hopefully I can put a couple of sets together from the box.

You bought a retail box. Hobby boxes will get you two auto's per box where he clearly states one auto on the one you got.

OK, thanks for the clarification. Didn't realize that extra auto and inserts would cost me so much more money.

Made a set, but my Tommie Frazier card is damaged. If anyone has an extra, I will trade 2 for 1, let me know what you need and I'll see if I have dupes.

Isn't it ironic that I swear off anymore hobby boxes and modern stuff so I can concentrate on one thing, and the one thing I choose is the '55 all american set, and then this comes out?

Talk about teasing a guy. Any of you have any more scans of this stuff?? Looks cool, but I promised myself
NO MORE!! (except heritage of course image )

I certainly can't afford all of it, but wish I could.

It's only suffering because I USUALLY end up on the short end of the stick. I'll probably break down and by some though, and I'll let you know what I pull.

Kevin-I don't know if $77.70/box is good or not, I just checked his site last night for comparison.

I'm all for blockbuster trades, surprisingly enough though I have not busted hardly any wax this year. I'll probably rip some Ultimate, Leaf Limited, Contenders and SPA. I didn't touch but 5 packs of SPx and a few packs of this Topps AA. Other than that, I've been pretty quiet...and sorry, I have nothing of Caddy, wish I did. I am trying to trade for an SPx of his, but that's another story. I am working on moving my SPx triple auto from last year of Eli, Roeth and Rivers #/25. Tough to make a deal on an $800 card with 12 year olds on the beckett and scf boards. Which is yet another reason why I spend more time on these boards...at least everything isn't in lowercase, missing punctuation and there are more provoking thoughts than just "i think u suck at life crap face"... just an observation. image

You think there are more than 4 Ok St fans?? LOL

  • where'd the short print numbers come from? i know several are wrong. for instance i have a lawrence taylor refractor auto that's numbered to /55....which means there's also like base auto's too. same with the jake scott, fouts, lott, and i'm sure several others.

I've even seen a namath that's not numbered....meaning there's likely other variations that are numbered.
there's also a bo jackson/jim brown numbered to 25....but haven't seen any brown single autos

I'm not sure the exact numbers, but i'm willing to be there's far more than 144 autos of the most common cards too.

These are only for the base autos. All of the chromes in groups A/B are numbered to just 5, all the others are numbered to 55. Duals are
    numbered to 25.

They only give the numbers for the short prints cards, all the others have plentiful print runs

  • stalin, I'm confused....for example, if it says 44; that means there's 44 signed unnumbered cards plus the others ie. chrome refractors etc? if that's the case, many of the unnumbered cards have a smaller population than the /55 refractors that accompany them......that doesn't make any sense.

Actually in most sets like this the base card is more valuable than the refractor version. You are right, there are more refractor autos
than base for all the group c players. This is the only exception besides the Barry Sanders.

The short prints will prove to be great sellers. These numbers are pretty limited, even at 144. This set has huge upside!
