Toned Pilgrim in PCI - why didn't this get any bids?

tmot99tmot99 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭
Besides being in a PCI holder (and with a 14 day return policy, who cares), why didn't this get any bids? A PCI 65 may be an equivelant to a PCGS 64 but with the apparent toning, it would be nice to look at this. My budget is shot for this month or I would have taken the gamble....

Howdy, Pilgrim

You mean the one with the butt-fugly toning?

And, if that isn't bad enough, in a PCI holder claiming it's MS-65.

Oh, yeah...I almost forgot...that wonderfully low opening bid...image

    Nuff said.

Looks wierd. The mottled toning isn't very attractive but there appears to be some color on the obverse. The luster looks a bit funky and almost too shiny when I like my Pilgrims with a more frosty look. PCI + Dark Toning + Bad Pictures = Low Realized Price.

Brandon, I can't compare the auctions' pictures to yours. I would love to see good pictures of this coin. I bet it looks a lot better in hand.

"Besides" is a big word... Besides possibly being an AU-58 masquerading as an MS-65 in a PCI holder, why not?

ANACS 65 for that price, all day, even if only a picture. PCI not in hand, NEVER.

    Easy
64 money for this coin is $125, knowlegeable collectors will knock a point or two off the PCI grade. Especially the new slabs.

Not to mention how it looks.

I've got a pinkish-toned raw MS64 that looks nicer. Was gonna send it off to PCGS when I finally got off my butt and used my freebie submissions that are left over from almost two years ago.

This seller has been in my top 5 no bid list for a long time. I use to follow his purchases on eBay and see them reappear on eBay with much higher PCI gold grades.

I'd take that bet. I really doubt it.

And I sure wouldn't pay the price of admission to satisfy my curiosity.

Agreed. He used to be part of the ACG dealer network. Major sleaze. His good feedback tells you how many dimwits buy coins and have no idea what they're doing.

I have seen commemortives that came in original wood boxes with this type of toning- did the Pilgrim come in a wood box?

    1. Coin is fugly
    2. Coin is probably AT failed
    3. Coin is probably AU
    4. Who needs the TO GO THRU THE TROUBLE

While I suppose it is possible to find a PCI Gold encased
coin that is nice looking and only 1-2 points under PCGS grading
it is highly unlikely today.Folks mainly go to lower tiers with problem coins.
