Hall Of Fame Type Set

I read a post recently but can't remember the thread about someone doing a HOF type set, i.e. each HOFer in a different card series.

Is anyone out there doing this? Wondering on any tips for a strategy. I've sort of started this without realizing it by picking up a 33 Goudey Waite Hoyt and 34 Goudey Arky Vaughn.

Anyway, it sounds like a great concept, wondering how anyone out there is progressing on it.

There are many collectors who are active on it - including me.

I put it on hold for about a month, then restarted it. A great way to do a set the way you as the collector want to.

I'm doing a HOF type set as well. The cool thing about is that you can set the rules. I started with getting a HOFer from every Topps year 51-91, and every Bowman and Kelloggs year. This does take some planning, and I bought and sold cards at the end to make the puzzle fit. So far I'm over 100 different types of cards - all HOFers. It's a great challenge, and when you get to the pre-war HOFers you quickly learn about the hundreds of different quirky sets that you never knew existed!

I haven't put mine in the set registry yet but I may. I think I will limit it to just players. Managers, umpires, and executives aren't as exciting to me. I do like the puzzle challenge as well.

Besides, now I have a reason to keep that T202 Home Run Baker. Now I need a reason to keep that 1952 Billy Herman.

The nonplayers and the negro leauguers make it much harder to complete, but I'm a glutton for punnishment. Good luck with thev set!

I started to list my cards on the registry but noticed that it did not accept some.

In keeping with the "type set" idea, I tried to register a '51 Berk Ross and a '62 Post Cereal but it didn't let me.

How long does it take PSA to recognize these "new" cards?

You should be able to register them by Wednesday, if not tomorrow. It usually takes one business day.

This is a fantastic set and other than registering cards issued during the players career, the set has no other restrictions. Also, take your time ... look at this set as a work in progress. if you do not rush into this set like others have done in the past, you will build a nice collection. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. I look at this as a chance to explore issues I would never otherwise look at. I'm not concerned as much with condition as getting a nice mix of cards. One new card a month would be great.
