USPS Postage increase this January 2006

Why is there a postage increase I thought usps announced they're debt free. Increase will take effect on January 8, 2006? 37 cents postage will increase by 2 cents to 39 cents. Don't know about others.

I guess their profit wasn't enough this year. And yes, all services will have increased rates.

Yup, I noticed the increases. A Priority parcel under 1 lb. is going up from $3.85 to $4.05 and like mentioned above, all services are going to cost more.

The postage increase was announced during the rise in oil prices, and hence a higher cost to deliver mail. Still, 39 cents to send a letter clear across the country is a great deal. A lot of people take the USPS for granted, considering their low, low prices.

Ironically, today I recieved a card via mail which took 3 weeks and a day to get here (NC) from Arizona (and delivery confirmation was never updated, for that matter). Then, two hours later I find out I'll have to pay more for the same super fast shipping.
