First ever subs-I was humbled!

I buy almost all my cards already slabbed so I really never had a need to join PSA to submit. But, I figured for 99 bucks it was worth it not to have to bother fellow board members with SMR and POP report questions.

Well, I sent in 16 cards a week ago, 10 for the November special and my 6 freebies. I decided to send in some raw picks and to crack my rookie Rickey Henderson from a BGCC holder. I got semi spanked! The Kingman was a high 7, low 8 in my guessing. I had the Goose coming back at a 7, the Schmidt a 9 or 10!...not a 6. I pulled it from some BBCE wax a month ago and put it right into a card saver it was such a "strong" card. I wonder what I missed? I am happy with the Lynn, Bench, Carew at their 7's. I am very pleased about a centered 8 Randy Jones to go along with my 9. I was also expecting to take the reported 2 grade hit from my BGCC 9 rookie Ricky, so only losing a grade is fine. I thought the Luzinski had a strong shot at an 8...not a 5! Ouch. I had the Concepcion at a 8 and was surprised to see the 7ST. Thankfully, I won a sweet mint 9 Luzinski and Concepcion from DGF.

I still have my 6 freebies coming. After seeing this I am hoping that the rookie Gretzky I sent in as a strong 8 candidate doesn't come back a 5 or 6.

Congrats to PSA on the quick turnaround though!

Actually, a bccg 9 just means "near mint or better" so the Rickey was a straight cross. I would think a psa 8 from that card would be worth more than a bccg 9. The Schmidt must have had a surface problem, something like a light scratch or a wrinkle. Everybody misses those on occasion.
  • I would have used a different word other than "humbled" on my first submission!

Actually a 7 is NM or near mint, so the Rickey was on the better side of that "Near Mint or Better," to garner an 8(NM-MT)

I too was humbled by my first submission but that was back in 2000. I since have learned how to grade cards a little better by PSA standards. But those 5's will happen as we all miss surface wrinkles sometimes. GL and keep at it. Grading is kinda like getting a tattoo, you don't just do it once.
