Excuse my ignorance on world coins-- question about gold British sovereigns (?)
OK. I hang out on the US coin forum, and I basically know nothing about world coins. I have the following coin that I will attempt to describe. I was hoping to get an idea of its value. I think it is just a bullion piece, but I am not sure. It is as follows:
It is definitely gold and from the UK. It has the "King George Slaying the Dragon" on one side, and Queen Elizabeth on the other. I bought it directly from the UK mint (that is why I think it is basically a bullion piece), and I think the date is somewhere between 1984-1989. It is a proof. If I remember correctly, I think the weight is approximately 1/4 oz of gold, so I am not sure if it is truly called a "sovereign".
Is this just a bullion piece with no numismatic value? If it has numismatic value, what do you think it is worth?
Thanks!

edited to add that it cannot be 1989, the British mint issued a commemorative sovereign that year, quite different from the others.

<< <i>If it is a proof, it has numismatic value, these recent sovereigns are usually sold with a case,COA and for almost double melt. I don't have a Spink at work and in anycase it's outdated, but someone sure does. How about a picture?

Thanks for the info. I don't have a picture on-hand, but I did come with a case and certificate of authenticity. If anyone has an idea of value, I would greatly appreciate it!!
