Why isn't there a 1933 Quarter?

I was trying to find this inf. but was unsuccessfull. Just curious as to why they would mint starting in 1932 and skip 1933 with 1934 right after.

The Washington quarter was first minted as a one-year commemorative for the 200th birthday of Washington... it was an instant hit. However, 1933 saw little coinage due to the depression, so the quarter wasn't minted (along with other denominations). In 1934, when they started minting quarters again, the mint chose to stick with the popular new design, and Washington became a permanent figure on the quarter.

I have handled two alleged 1959 wheatback cents, and didn't think that either one was genuine. I have handled one 1976-D 40% silver dollar, which was genuine.
However, I strongly question the comment that five 1933 quarters were authenticated by three numismatists.
