From Belgium? Oh, and one other question

Alright, I was looking through my Grandpas old coin box and I found this...it looks to be in rather nice condition, and I'm leaning toward it being Belgium, coming from the word Belges, but I'm not smart enough to figure it out, and not dumb enough to go around spouting that it is from Belgium (not that these coins get a lot of viewers...)

But here it is

Oh, and my second question was...

I was at this coin show Sunday, and I bought this beautiful 1 Oz. Silver Australian coin from 2006. Its proof, and it has a dog sitting on the back surrounded by this sort of white area, and I find it absolutely gorgeous. Anyways, how come I can't find it on the Royal Australian Mint Site?

What would be the least bit "dumb" about saying that any coin is from the country named on it? Most (with very few exceptions) countries only put their name on their coins in their local language(s)

Perhaps its a bullion coin and not an official issue.image

But yea, I agree, that statement was a little off, either way, I'll take it that its from Belgium then.

Its weird that bullion coins wouldn't be on the Mint site, but yea, thats probably it...

  • Belgium is a bilingual country like Canada. The country's name is spelled in Flemish (Belgie) and French (Belgique). The legend on your coin is French and translates to 'Leopold II King of the Belgians' and 'The union makes the force'.

It is possibly a pattern coin of Belgium. Pattern #86? -Dan
  • It is regular issue KM-94 with a mintage of 11.886 million. Also one of the first copper-nickel alloy type coins made.

The lunar silver bullion coins are minted at the Perth Mint. It has its own website. As far as the coin being proof, I highly doubt it. The regular issues look like a US Proof coin in reverse, but the actual proof comes in a red case and is limited in mintage to about 2,500, and for 2006, the proof lunar features a standing dog.
