WESTBROOK: OUT FOR SEASON
December 6, 2005
By CHRIS McPHERSON
The results are in, and the news is not good for running back Brian Westbrook. The results of an MRI came back late Tuesday afternoon, and the tests revealed that Westbrook has a Lis Franc sprain in his right foot. He will miss the remainder of the season.
Westbrook returned to the game after suffering what was originally called a foot sprain, but finished with 17 yards on nine carries. A preliminary X-ray on Westbrook's foot looked fine, said head coach Andy Reid during his Tuesday day-after press conference.
However, a closer look revealed more damage.
It was not known on Tuesday night if Westbrook's injury will require surgery.
Ryan Moats is likely to move into the starting halfback role, splitting time with Lamar Gordon, Reno Mahe and likely Bruce Perry, who could be activated from the practice squad.
"Brian is done for the year. He has a Lis Franc sprain," said Reid on his Tuesday night radio show. "We just found that out before I came here. Not a good thing.
"Brian Dawkins had a Lis Franc sprain and didn't have to have surgery on it. Chad (Lewis) and Duce (Staley) had one that they had to have surgery on, so we don't know exactly which way the doctor is going to go with it yet. They do a procedure where they'll put Brian under anethesia and then they have to test the joint when he's under the anesthesia and then determine whether he has surgery or doesn't have surgery."
Reid said he believes that even if Westbrook requires surgery, he could be back for the start of the 2006 season.
"If there is a positive here, it's early enough where if he had the worst scenario where he had to have the surgery, at least he'd be able to get back here in the off-season and be ready to go for next year."
Westbrook was injured on the team's first possession when he caught a Mike McMahon pass and gained 10 yards before being forced out of bounds. As Westbrook stepped out of bounds, his right foot was hit from behind by Seattle's Jimmy Williams. Westbrook immediately reacted, jumping up and expressing pain. He was treated on the sidelines, went back in the game, but ultimately left the contest.
Westbrook, who signed a five-year contract extension a few weeks ago that keeps him in Philadelphia through 2010, finished his season with 617 rushing yards, averaging 4 yards per carry, and 61 receptions for 616 yards. He had a combined 7 touchdowns.

Same to you my friend. I'm already looking forward to some smart acquisitions in the off season, some good draft picks and back to winning Eagles football for the 2006 season!

Draft?
I would like to see the following:
1) a big DT
2) another DE
3) Maurice Stovall
Another DT will bring back Jim Johnson's rotation. That was flawed with the loss of Simon, and the injuries to Grasmanis and Rayburn. McDougle getting shot didn't help the DE situation either. Stovall is a Philly boy .... and has the size.

Good points. Certainly appears like this Colts team is one of those NFL teams that comes along every 15 years or so that everyone, including the players, knows simply can't be stopped. Just what the Eagles would have needed...another friggin' Super Bowl loss...perhaps in the long-run this rotten Eagles season will turn out for the best.

Stalin - that was a good zinger. I'm gonna give you credit for that one.
