I guess I need to show that I have a sense of humor more often...

Was this coin graded properly? Not bloodly likely...

Now for one that actually looks quite nice for the grade... at least from the picture even if there is a rim imperfection...

I thought this was an decent illustration to add to a thread we had about a week or two ago...

I do think the 1676 offered by Lockdale's looks quite nice for the grade... even with some slight rim imperfections.

I see your point. The 1st is NOT a VF coin, I would grade it G/VG and original color. 2nd looks VF to me but possibly cleaned. What do you think of the starting prices for them?

I think Lockdale's starting bid is way too high. Perhaps explains the lack of bids.

The first coin is also a little high but not by much.

I am thinking that the second coin, which I believe is decent, would fail to get the coinkat original surfaces designation. However, unless the picture has been enhanced, I still believe it to be a decent coin unless there are obvious hairlines from a possible cleaning. I think the starting price is a challenge without seeing the coin. This is part of the dilema of bidding without seeing the actual coin.

hmmm . . . perhaps the first one isn't off the mark (pricewise that is).

Krause is helpful, but a true British EF Charles II Crown would sell for an amount far in excess of $2,000... The second coin is well worth $700-$1000 DEPENDING ON THE SURFACES of the coin and, unfortunately, we can't see the coin, only the picture.

maybe the seller meant VG instead of VF? I want to be fair here...

  • Hmm that second Lockdale coin i'm unsure about. Nice coin and i like the tone, but i think VF is a bit high, AVF perhaps. There's alot of wear on the hair!

The first coin is definitely nowhere near VF, but the second one I'd grade at VF30-35.

Coinkat, in order to do a linkie thing, just right click on the URL of the desired site and press save, then when you're posting a message here, first click on the little icon in the horizontal tool bar above the white message posting area (this is the 5th icon from the left, with "http" written on it), and enter the desired URL into the little message box that pops up (by right clicking once again, and pressing paste, then OK, then another box will pop up asking you to enter some kind of text for the link, to which you can enter something, or just click OK again). Now you're done!! Easy as pie.

For the record, Lockdale's did not respond to two separate e-mails I sent in connection with this coin... before the auction closed. I guess they are in the running to get the Special Coinkat designation for outstanding customer service that may become a weekly or perhaps monthly feature...image
