My 72 Registry set is now complete!

I'm waiting for the last cards to come in, but I just locked up my Expos Team card. My set is now complete. Thanks to everyone who made big contributions to my set.

Wow! Great work. Please share some of the detail on what it took to build the set. Big purchases, submissions, helpful registrants, etc...

  • Good job. The 72 set has been one of my favorites for a long time. I've thought about attempting it but don't know if I have the patience to complete such a task. Any estimate on % SMR it cost you to put the set together? Are you upgrading the set now and/or heading on to another project?

Good luck on your next project.

  • My set will have an average GPA of around 8.7 when I add the last few cards. The bulk of the 9s came from purchases from a few board members.

Overall, it was very expensive to put the set together.

I'm hoping to continue to upgrade it for a while. I have a number of sets in various stages of completion. I think I will also make a more serious effort to complete my 33 Goudey and 60 Topps sets in the next few months.

I highly recommend working on the set. 8s are plentiful at good prices and the 72 crowd is a great group of collectors. I had a lot more fun building this set than the 68 and 74 sets which I also recently completed.

  • Congrats! I like the 72 set as well (as you know from my purchases from you), it is a monster.

I am selling off my 1960 Topps set. I have a bunch of PSA 8 commons for sale. If you are interested, let me know and I can send you a list.
  • Please send me the list of 60s. Thanks

If you don't mind, where did you get the Expos team card? How is the centering on the one you got, that is a tuffy L/R.

  • I agreed to a trade for the card with another board member. The centering is nice.

  • Hi David, Congrats on a monster set. I remember how much effort it took to complete my 1972 Topps set so I take my hat off to you. When the smoke clears, do you have any other sets that you are working on? Neil

  • Arny got me started in May of this year. I bought a good size PSA 8 starter set from a board member and I wasn't sure whether I wanted to complete the set (because I have many other pending projects). Arny posted that he was looking for 72 PSA 8s and I offered to sell him mine for what I thought was a fair price (basically the price I paid). Arny got me a bit annoyed with his response so I decided to work on the set instead of selling it. I originally planned to complete the set in PSA 8, but when Jim Vitale and Andy Montero broke up their sets I couldn't resist buying them for the upgrades and quality cards.
