How to sell coins?

When I moved this year I came upon a box of coins that I would like to sell
but I do not know where to start, I live in a very rural area and there are no
pawn shops or coin shops. after some research I have discovered that most are commerative
proofs and a 1981 proof set all still in their cases and their are a couple of old coins too. a silver Eagle, a peace dollar and a morgan I have been digging through the box and there is some currency a set of sequental 1976 two dollar bills I do have a scanner and can send any one a picture that is interested in looking at any of it. I would appreciate any advice any one has on this, I know to stay off ebay because
you can not get any money there

    Hi, Susan. image

If you are unsure of what to ask for them, then eBay might be the way to go- just scan 'em, put 'em out there, and let them find their own price level. I would disagree with your statement about not getting any money there- lots of folks do just fine, and if your coins have low starting bids, no reserves, and fair shipping, they might just do OK. You never know.

That being said, you've come across a great place to sell coins, right here. And the BST Forum has one advantage over eBay- it's free!

So scan some pictures of what you have, post 'em here, and I'm sure folks will be happy to help you price 'em. Nobody's gonna try to rip you off because if you post your material here, it's out in the open for everyone to see.

Suzs: I disagree with you regarding EBAY. I'm a private party, and I've sold over 1000 lots of coins etc on EBAY during the past 4yrs or so. My EBAY ID is nankraut. I've almost always had very pleasant dealings (with some exceptions, of course); and I consistently receive significantly higher prices for my coins, even after paying the commission. My suggestion: list a couple things to sell, to get your feet wet; ALWAYS include good quality pictures; ALWAYS describe the item honestly; ALWAYS be courteous and patient. There are lots of nice folks out there---but some bad guys too.image
