OK Heritage nuts, drool away...

I think I'm in love. It's gonna be very hard to wait for these to come out. Even without the first year players, this is gonna be huge!

Alright 57 experts. What kind of variables might we expect? ie: 1956 have the light backs ....

not a whole lot of variations in the '57 set.

    * We'll probably see some sort of variation with #20, which is the Aaron reverse negative
    * #22 is a wrong photo (card is supposed to be Jerry Snyder, but the photo is actually Ed Fitz Gerald)
    * #176 has a wrong spelling variation on the back (EUGENF W. BAKEP)

Other than that, the '57 was a pretty clean set. I'm hoping they do something with the Bazooka & Big Blony checklists and the Contest & Lucky Penny game cards. That'd be very cool.

OMG..the mantle is going to go for a million..... THOSE ARE GORGEOUS....OMG!!!!
  • I know modern collectors drool over these new sets with vintage designs but I prefer the original 1957 issue anyday. Just an opinion.

Wow, that set might be beautiful enough to do in psa slabs baby!!!!!

  • Those odds suck once again. After last years crap boxes pulling as many as 10 of the same card in my boxes, I won't be wasting my time again. They really should try to make the relic or auto 1:24

Those bright white borders look very tacky. The idea is to give these cards a vintage feel, but it just looks like kitsch when they do a half assed job of it. But then I felt the same way about the recent crackerjacks and T 205 sets as well.

2 cuts in the entire print run? Why even bother?

    Team Topps Autos again? ARRRGGGGHH

I wrote topps a 4 or 5 page letter full of suggestions based on the thread we had on here a while ago, and got back a generic "we don't care" letter. I will still probably be dropping more money on this product than I should, but they do look great. I just think it's silly that they even bothered to put the cuts in if there is only one of each, but at least they look better than last year's cuts.

are you an employee of Topps company?

    RIP GURU
  • I guess it will all depend on the Retail odds for what everyone buys, because 2 cut autos won't be worth spending extra money.
  • TNP777TNP777 Posts: 5,710 ✭✭✭
nope, but I wish I was so I could raid their archives of their Brett Butler proofs, slicks and printing plates!

Why, do I sound like a Topps homer?

I agree with Boopotts. The white borders look horrible. Why are they so dang wide? Also, the Heritage logo is way too prominent--ruins the clean look of the card. Very disappointing. image

i agree, i dont like that.. and the black refractor looks even worse.. hopefully these are just "prototype" sample pictures or something, and not the final product..

Topps started with the larger border in 2003..with the 54 set...i also DO NOT LIKE this.... the 01 Heritage set had smaller normal sized borders as in comparison with 1952 topps...it still remains topps finest modern effort in my opinion. I was in favor of topps making a subset of box toppers last year that was the original size of the 1956 cards....this year they are supposed to be the same size as the 1957 set...but the borders frame the card instead of highlight the edges like int he original 1957.

I'm hoping that the base cards aren't UV coated. I'd love to try to make an autographed set of them to go along with the 1957 Topps autographed set I'm working on.

I really like how the 03 chromes were UV coated on both sides. I wish they would do that again.

    A fellow brother in arms!

I would buy these kinds of products if they had a more genuine vintage feel, but not a single one (IMO) of these retro sets has really done that. They all look like modern cards with a retro design, but there's more to a card then just the graphics and layout.

The Turkey Reds were a HUGE disappointment, IMO, as I thought they really had a chance to make a gorgeous set. One thing that would really help is if they put the ballplayers in throwback uniforms, and had them pose with throwback gloves.

I also agree with Perry in that the black refractor just looks terrible. Why can't they skip all the refractor BS and make the black parallels out of simple card stock with black printing, a la the '62 football and '71 baseball sets?
  • I agree that the borders are a little on the thick said but I definately like the look of the Relic, and Clubhouse Collection cards over last years black and yellow! Jury is still out out on the Real One Auto's. image

I was considering breaking my rule of never buying any Modern junk. Then I saw the "Topps Heritage" logo mucking up the card, and came to my senses. Leave it to Topps to eff up a potentially good thing.

  • well I am sorry I cant share in everyones disappointment. I already pre-ordered 2 cases of the heritage boxes. It was a 50.00 deposit, and money due upon reciept of the items to the dealer. I have dealt with this dealer all 3 years I bought cases and am always happy. Plus you cant beat the free shipping and no slaes tax.

Being that heritage is the only modern sets I collect, I may wish certian changes but overall, I love "opening of packs" and to ME well worth it in entertainment dollars, and putting the set together in my binder.
