Heisman Question - Why do they give it out Before the bowls?

Many years in the past, the winner of the Heisman trophy follows that win up with a loss (and terrible game) in their bowl game. I have always thought they should wait until the bowl games have been played to vote on it, so you get that one last game to decide.
This year especially with USC playing Texas in the Championship game (most likely) and the top 3 candidates are on those two teams (Bush, Lienart, Young), I would say they should wait for sure! otherwise they give it to one, and the other team could still make them look stupid in the end!
Should they wait until after the bowls? why do they do it early anyway?

about 20% already have their votes in even before tonite. It was agrued on ATH on why they send it in so early.
Anywho Viince Young is putting up stats tonite.

Bush made his game with over 500 all purpose yards...he's got the Heismann locked up.
14/17 for 193 yards, 3 TDs (and an INT), 8 rushes for 57 yards and a TD.
Definitely not enough for any votes from Bush.
<< <i>IMO Bush is the hands down best player in the country and a lock for the Heisman regardless of how USC's bowl game plays out. >>
I agree but what happens if Texas holds bush to like 20 yards and not points.......................... while Young scores passing, running and catching? then the win just looks foolish. That is all I am saying.
I think Bush deserves it.
For those of you watching the game....did you see Leinart's shovel pass!???
<< <i>so, who do you think Matt Leinhart will cast his vote for? (he gets one since he is a Heisman winner) Think he will vote for Bush or Himself? >>
Pretty sure I've heard him say he's going to vote for bush, as he's made reference more than once that since he's won it, he'd love to get Bush one, too.
Talk about team leadership and being about the team more than himself. You don't see clowns like Vince Young putting the team ahead of his own personal glory.
Just curious - young is a clown? how?...maybe I missed something?

Because I feel he puts his own stats and highlights above the rest of the team...running up the score, staying in the game longer than he needs to, etc.
