Other Than ANA and FUN, What Are the Larger Numismatic Organizations?

In a recent post several people noted that the ANA, ANS, and FUN are some of the largest numismatic organizations with some of the highest number of members. What are some of the other larger numismatic organizations? Do these larger organizations also promote or put on coin conventions? How do their bylaws compare with those of the ANA and FUN?

  • I don't know if PNG would fall under this category. It is for major reputable dealers with the highest numismatic standards from what I have read.

The PNG, though only open to dealers, is the most exclusive numismatic organization with the tightest standards for admission.

The Central States Numismatic Society (CSNS) is another large numismatic organization. They also organize one of the largest and best coin shows of the year.

  • WTCG is it necessary to have a large inventory worth $100,000 atleast to be a PNG member? Also, buy PCGS and NGC coins at Grey Sheet Bid levels and buy back coins at 70%of what you sold them for. I don't know if I made this up or heard it somehwere. Clarification would be appreciated.

    Touchdown,

You can check out the PNG code of ethics at their website at www.pngdealers.com.

The minimum inventory worth is $175,000. There is no requirement to buy PCGS or NGC coins at greysheet bid...if there was then essentially all of us would be buried in unwanted inventory.

There are plenty of coins out there that are definitely not worth greysheet bid. There are plenty of coins that are not even worth bluesheet bid.

It's not one of the largest ones but JRCS is one of the most important...to me at least image

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the JRCS?

I'll field this one, Cladiator. The John Reich Collectors Society (JRCS), named for the Chief Engraver at the United States Mint from 1807 to 1817 (Johann Mathheus Reich), is a collector organization devoted to the study and collecting of all early Federal coinage, both silver and gold. We publish an award winning quarterly journal (The John Reich Journal), and hold our annual meetings each year at the ANA Summer Convention. We will have an informal gathering at the FUN Show, in Orlando, in January, open to anyone interested in the Bust coinage. Membership dues are just $20.00 per year. We maintain a website at:

    http://www.jrcs.org/
