T205 PSA 7 "lost in the mail"! Need help!

Sorry to have to share my misfortune but I recently sold a T205 Konetchy PSA 7 (cert. 12377599) on ebay and shipped it to the buyer. I sold another T205 PSA 7 on the same day and the buyer did not buy insurance. I got mixed up and did not buy insurance on the Konethcy even though the buyer optioned and payed for it. I know, I know! I am nuts for shipping such an item without insurance regardless of whether the buyer paid for it or not. I didn't even spend for delivery confirmation. I know, I know! Anyway, the buyer has yet to receive the card and its been almost a month since I shipped it. I refunded his money and he said he will resend the payment in the event he does eventually get the card. Buyer has good feedback, was patient, and very polite. I have every reason to believe him beyond a "trust no one" philosophy. Can you good folks please keep an eye out for this card in case someone jacked it at the PO or got it by mistake and kept it? If there is a thief and they are shrewd it may of course be raw or in a different holder. Sorry if anyone already read the exact post on a different forum. Below is link to another forum where you can see a picture as I suck at pictures on this forum Any help is appreciated!

Well if the buyer doesn't pay for it I'm not about to out of my own pocket so I can't blame you there, but if I sell a big dollar item I require them to take insurance but that's just me.

Now this was not a good move but you already know that.

    Good luck finding your card

You sold 2 T205 PSA 7 same day. Let's say Buyer A paid with insurance and Buyer B did not. You mailed Buyer A's card without insurance and Buyer B with insurance. Am I right? Now Buyer A (one who paid insurance) claims that package did not arrived.

Since Buyer A paid for insurance, you have to return the money.

Did you mail it at post office or you just put stamps and drop in mail box?

Are you sure you didn't send both cards to buyer B? Did the buyers paid through paypal? If so, why didn't you just print a shipping label through paypal delivery confirmation is only 13 cents and you can print label with regular paper. Even if not paid through paypal you can still print shipping label as long as purchased through ebay. Insurance can be purchase up to $200. You can also print label and purchase/add insurance later in post office.

You have to be careful when sending stuff especially when it's a high $$ item. I usually write or printout the buyers name & address tie together with the item using a rubberband. I note down if insurance is purchased or not. I try not to rush sealing items.

If you send it to the right address and the buyer didn't really received the package, it could be (once I asked po clerk and told me what can happen to lost package).

    1. got damage and address can't be read. this goes to the mail recovery center. (I know Usps use to auction those damage/lost item on ebay. Don't know if they still do.)

    2. scanner is dirty and package goes around the country until somebody notices.

    3. address can't be read (either handwriting can't be read, address label peeled off or ink smudge). This goes to mail recovery center. (that's why it's a good thing to include the buyers address inside the package).

    4. Went to the wrong address. (I get this many times with letter envelope in the mailbox (sometimes bill payments to some company and many times my neighbor's bank statements). Packages, I once got my neighbor's.)

Post office clerk didn't tell me this but it could be
    5. Inside job. Thieves in post office.

    Goodluck. Hope card arrives.

A couple of years ago I sent some rare Led Zeppelin cd's a guy won from me on Ebay. When they arrived on his end the cd's were gone and got replaced by some bottles of herbal snore relief!
I almost feel off my chair when he sent me a picture of that so it does happen.
One thing that has changed since then is that the type of priority mail box I used has been re-designed by the post office. The old box was very easy to open and tamper with unless you taped it up securely.
  • A card like that should never be sold without insurance and delivery confirmation. I have sold on Ebay for over 7 years and have never had a lost package. It's your fault.

Insurance is for the seller whether the buyer pays or not.

That said, USPS insurance is a joke. They will typically try to only pay you for what you paid for an item or what it is worth, not what you sold it for. Lowpop PSA graded cards are virtually uninsurable. USPS will point to a "Beckett/SMR" and say they are valued at x, here is your check.

Obviously you have learned. Pack well and use Priority with Signature Confirmation.

On the really expensive stuff use registered. Good luck recovering your card. Get in contact with your post office and the post office of the customer.

insurance is crap for the seller..

all the seller is required to do is provide delivery confirmation..
