Babe Ruth signed ball, PSA -- input needed!

Just saw this ball on EBAY and had to put a small bid on it;

Anyone know the dealer? Any background or Babe Ruth insight would be helpful.

I was offered a "Second Chance" bid that I feel is a great deal if it's everything it looks like!

PLEASE HELP

dont take the 2nd chance offer.. more than likely it's a scam and didnt even come from the original seller.. check the seller name, etc..

How could this be?? He has a second Ruth ball for sale?? Or did the high bidder back out??
I'm no fan of Broadway Rick's so you can take that for whatever it's worth. I would stay away if I were you!
  • The high bidder was unable to complete the transaction.

I have been in touch with the seller since the auction closed. The listing shows all sides of the ball, a PSA letter of authenticity and the seller has 7000+ eBay w/ 99% feedback. All signs point to the transaction is legit.

Is there a mediation service that can be used for such high price item? I offered to pick it up in person-not a big deal to me.

I've bought some big ticket items, but usually at auction and/or in person.
    What protections do I have?

THANKS for all the input, it all helps!

  • As long as you can see the 2nd chance offer on your "my ebay" page, the offer is legit. If you think the ball is a buy at that price (and i would consider it a pretty good price), then I wouldnt see any problems with buying it. Seller looks legitimate enough.

Any chance that there was some shilling involved in the original transaction, thus increasing the price of the 2nd chance offer?

that is what I was thinking. They shill it up to where they want it to be, and if no one out bids their shill, then they can settle for the second place bid if it is high enough. I would not touch it.
  • I'm not sure how got in touch with them (phone or email). He is a regular SCD advertiser and also runs auctions through his website. I'm sure if you called him he would have no problem giving you his return/refund policy or let you know for sure if the second chance offer is legit. Good Luck! image

Edited to add: He just had a huge auction not too long ago.

Here is a little background on the seller.

You have to do what you think is right, but I'd contact the high bidder and figure out exactly what their reasons for not purchasing the item were.

I wouldn't buy water from him if I were in the middle of the Sahara.
    Who is Rober Maris?
