The PR on the label probably mean the coin number---from the invoice-- corresponds to the PR coin. The coin shown may not be the coin submitted. Any Bust experts know if this is really a proof?

The same seller was trying to unload the same coin a short while ago. That time he had it at $15,000.00. After it doesn't sell this time maybe he'll relist it at $5,000.00

In particular, I am not at all impressed with the (lack of) sharpness of the rims and would bet against the coin being a Proof. In addition to that, I think the seller is guilty of keyword spamming.

I sent the following message to the seller:

FYI - your cleaned coin is a business strike, not a proof. PCGS has designated it as such, by giving it coin number 4521. Had they thought the coin was proof, they would have given it coin number 4554.


Edited: I now see that there are apparently two different flips here (that, or PCGS has called the coin both a proof and a business strike). One flip indicates coin number 4554 (the top two pics), and the pic showing the Cleaned designation by PCGS shows coin number 4521. Something very odd going on here.

Edited further: Got a quick response from seller. Seems legit enough. Guess it's not uncommon on BB'd coins for conflicting coin numbers to be put on the insert. I've never paid attention to the coin numbers on our own BB'd coins. Anyway, I can't believe how much time I've spent commenting on this single thread....that's enough.

My thought would be it was submitted as a proof... thus the first label with 4554 that goes on the flip. After reviewing the coin PCGS found it business strike and cleaned. Thus they produced the cert label with the business strike coin number and cleaned designation.

And with this outside a slab there is no gaurantee the coin shown is the coin submitted anyway.

Sellers reponse to my questions are posted below.

1) It IS graded by PCGS, just not slabbed. You get the paper pictured, which is from PCGS. I talked to them by phone about this coin.
2) It IS a POP 1, because it is the only other PROOF they have seen & it is NOT a PR-64, which is what the other one is.
3) $18,500 is too low for the PR-64, not mine. Although you can offer that if you like...
4) I need the money for a house closing. That really is the ONLY reason I am selling it.

I looked at the cert numbers follow the number on this lable. There are many low end proofs (pr62/63) coins from the 1870-1910 range, then there is a MS62 1832 dime, and some gold, and another body bagged bust coin. Again I would speculate it was submitted as PR on the invoice.

The only reason it says PR is because he submitted the coin with a PR coin number on the submission form.

The coin is not proof.

itsnotjustme is right. It was submitted as a proof and returned as a business strike. The first label with the 4554 was generated from the invoice and attached to the flip. The blue label is the final printed label containing the results after the coin is examined.

so clearly what we got here is a classic example of a shyster with a feedback rating of 2194

and a positive 99.6% trying to pull a fast one.
