I see the doubled ear, not in the leaves (sorry). not to crazy about the black spots either. I am sure your pics will be better so please repost when coin in hand
There is doubling in the leaves & cotton bolls. Unfortunately the seller's images are pretty poor. Reverse was verified to be a B1b resulting in a TOP 100 VAM 6 "Doubled Leaves". I'll post better images when the coin arrives.
Jeff Oxman's TOP 100 book has the coin priced at 4x common in MS63. I don't know if this value still applies.
Herb, ya gotta start somewhere, & 1921 ain't a bad place to call home.
Take a jump to the other side of the series and check out the 1878 coins. The P mint is broken down into 8TF, 7/8TF & 7TF (actually sections of 7TF's can be collected in groups), so you can start by concentrating on one small area. And the VAMs in the 1878 year are really interesting.
I just cherried a 1878-S VAM 19A in PCGS 63, & another 1878-S 17A in PCGS 63 tonight. It's really been a cherryful day.
Thanks Charlie. I'm currently using a Fuji FinePix S5100 4.0 Megapixel camera. I am also using +2 and +4 macro lens' screwed over the factory lens for the close-ups.
I like to use a pair of GE Soft Light Energy Saver Long Life bulbs. They are rated at 100 Watts each but only use 23 Watts of power. These are "florescent type" bulbs shaped like a normal lightbulb, but they don't produce much heat. They're mounted on flex arms so I can easily move them around to get the correct shading on the feature I'm imaging.
I still don't produce the overall high quality of images like some of the others here but I'm getting better.
I assume an astute Morgan VAM collector will realize that this variety is not often offered for sale and then immediately hit the Buy-It-Now button before the other astute VAM collector does.
yay, you have a coin that is in a book. listed as a blah blah TOP 100.
were you collecting these types of coins before books came out?
is the excitement due to a TOP100? Just like a top registry set?
cough marketing cough
edited to add: i am just trying to get a reaction. this whole VAM thing appears to be in its early stages as far as collectors go. Only years old, not decades? why all the attention now?
