5 years 60 million. Seems like he took a little less to stay with the Sox.

    I just heard. Nice.

Like I said in the Thome thread, this means Frank is all but gone, which makes me sad. Thomas is one of the legends of the organization and it's a bit sad to see him go.

Wasn't Konerko going out to California to talk to the Angels, or was that a ploy to get more money from Chicago?

Seems if he was that intent on staying with Chicago, he'd not have entered negotiations with other teams.

It was reported that Baltimore offered 5 years at 65 million. They did not want to negotiate further because they felt no matter how much they were willing to pay, he wouldn't play for them.

How do you set a value if you only negotiate with one team? How do you get maximum value unless your employer thinks others are seriously interested. But then you already knew this Axtell, you are way too transparent. If your aren't pissing in someone's pie, you are just one unhappy puppie aren't you?

Try to be nice sometime, you might actually enjoy it or take a breather.
  • I'm not going to get into the pissing contest here, but I will say that even though I am a Cubs fan, I am very happy to see Paul Konerko back with the White Sox. No one on that team personifies the culture more than Paulie. Great, humble guy who just does his job and will get paid for it now, too. I just hope he stays out of his yearly slump next year.

I'll tell you what. With Thome and Konerko going back to back, the Sox will put a lot more pop into that offense. Will be an exciting season next year, but hopefully they won't return to the Sox of old - lots of homers and not enough wins.......unless of course it helps the Cubs. image

I usually try to make it out to Comiskey once or twice a year, and with the Cardinals coming next year, I'll think I'll save some $$$ and go to Comiskey and just watch the Cubs on TV.

It truly is great having two teams in one city.

2006 World Series Cubs vs White Sox, let's do it. imageimage

  • If Thome stays healthy then Konerko and Thome will be the dynamic duo BUT I also question getting rid of this Rowland kid who at 28 years old is much younger than Thome and one of the best Center Fielders in MLB, if not the best.

I hope either Brian Anderson or Joe Borchard will be nearly as good defensively as Rowand ( not Rowland which shows how popular the Sox still are) was, and quite possibly better at the plate.

For those wishing to join the Whitesox bandwagon, there is NO Comiskey Park anymore, The old one left in 1990 I believe, and the replacement is now called Cellular One Park/Field. (many Cub fans think Wrigley Chewing Gum Field is acceptable, but the money taken by the Sox for product advertising re their park's name and have money to build a World Championship team is distastefull )

The parking lot just north of "THE CELL" does still contain a replica of the Old Comiskey Park's home plate, exactly where it was in the old ballyard. It is great to stand near it, in a past hitters area, and imagine or actually realize that at some time ago, Ty Cobb, or Babe Ruth, or Ted Williams stood in the very same space .

I do call it Comiskey sometimes too.

This aint no party,... this aint no disco,.. this aint no fooling around.

  • Oh, and I forgot to mention that Rowland has quite a bit of pop in his bat, he hit 24 dingers in 2004.

I pitty you Jaxx and that is why Sox fans are hated by the northsiders. This is a White Sox thread in which a Cubs fan even commented positively on the Sox, and yet you feel the need to berrate the Cubs. You won the series! It's not from advertising money, and if you think that changing their name to US Cellular can bring in enough money "build" a club as you claimed, well, simply put you're an idiot. The wheels were in motion long before the Sox sold out. Most of these guys have been around longer than the name US Cellular has graced the 35th street exit on the west side of the Dan Ryan.

So there goes the air out of your Cub fan gripe interjection.

Aaron Rowand was a servicable center fielder, above average but we saw all we were going to get from him. He's also a great guy, the Sox have 3 guys with more potential to play centerfield, the equal to or much better than Rowand. The lineup has enough to carry one of them till they develope.

Thome's back is healed as is his elbow and he claims he is in the best shape of his life. Now its up to competition to see whether Williams made the right move.
  • Here is another Cub fan who is glad Konerko stayed. The guy seems to be a fairly quiet leader and solid person and is a good representative of the city and team. I think he realized his standing in Chicago was worth a few million by itself.

I thought the ballpark was named Comiskular Field image. They have absolutely fabulous food there too.

I will be very curious to see if next year's attendance improves greatly from last year (they were 17th in home attendance and 24th in road attendance), or if they cancel their half-price days.

Thome is also a great pickup for them. He just needs to stay healthy.
