Just got back from a Coin Shop.

I was there about an hour...looked at Ike's, Susie B's, Frankies...then I asked to see some SMS You know with the hairy head! Well the lady said WHAT are you LOOKING for...I said Cameo Proofs and the like....she says ,they, the Owners have already gone through them...Rudly I may add...Well if you were me would you go back to a Shop like this!

  • NOPE, I walk out of places like that, They make you feel like crap for browsing. When someone asks what I am lookin g for I just say "whatever catches my eye, nothing in particular". Then they don't know what you are looking for. If you do see something you are interested in act very casually to see it. i found that the more excited and anxious you get the more the price tends to go up.

    most shops would say that.

I suprised you told the truth.

Question......."Why do you want to look at them?"

Your CORRECT ANSWER SHOULD BE....."I would like to get one w/o as much toning as mine have now"

  • Well I am honest, So they just lost a customer...nothing off my back...there are other stores...I will have to drive further but thats alright with me.

By the way this is a big coin store on the SouthSide of Chicago...I guess Bad Bad Leroy Brown must live in the neighborhood.
  • They are on ebay too...maybe I should send a nasty email stating how rude one of their sales people is!

    Out them.
  • South side of Chicago and they were rude?????

    and you live in Chicago?

I'm laughing becuz most folks from Chicago are rude-

I should know- I am one from the South side of Chicago.

You go back in that shop and tell the ol broad to shut up and let you see the damn coins or you will spread it allll over town how ugly she is.

When I went out with Ken...we went to a shop I had never been too...

He asked to look through the proof sets and the people freaked! They said "All our coins are the highest quality." and "Never in our 20 years of business has anyone ever asked to look at our proof sets!"

They were a tad rude as well...
  • Out them.

Life got you down? Listen to John Coltrane.
  • They have never been that rude before...she was to old to be PM'sing...unless it was just a hormonal thang. Well its on Archer, does that ring a bell.

Chicago Coin Company, right? Yep, don't even go there any more. Unless you catch them at a show when they just did a buy you don't stand a chance! Anyway, with me around you still don't stand a chance!!! Then there is Sego, what I miss he finds, so your still out in the cold. Maybe you should try the Kent WA area!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

You should try the one on Harlem, you can't miss it, the sign says Rare Coins & Live Bait!!!

Ahh Marty- they quit sellin live bait- they got lambasted becuz it all died before ya got it in the water.

Try Indiana- supposedly there are still a few shops that have coins left.
  • Yeah I tried that bait pond on Harlem...yeah he will swollow you whole and spit back the hook!
  • I would have to go all the way to North Louisville to find a shop Marty hasn't been to.

Not an unusual reaction at shops or shows at all. If other businesses had as many rude retailers as does the coin business I doubt they'd be in business very long-but these rude dealers seem to persist and persist. Most are just scared TO DEATH you'll get something for less than it's worth. They seem to be particularly sensitive about proof and Mint sets. Spread the word and don't do business with them.
  • I say Poop on ummmm...let them keep their trash...cause that is all they had....I would never sell anything to them either.

My how times change. In the old days thed'd get rude and throw you out of the shop
and now they go through themselves before they get rude. image

So technically, they are not coin dealers. They are cherry pickin', customer kickin' thieves, just lying in wait for their prey. And their prey would be anyone without knowledge of coins..... and the lady they hired to shew you out sounds like she could run a soup kitchen, too.

Count your blessings ! Don't go back image

run a local ad in the paper...I believe the Chicago Tribune has quite a large coverage area. If you ask specifically what you want through the ad, you may be surprisedimage........and it might be cheaper than driving all over in search of what you want .
  • TwoSides2aCoin, that is a very good idea....Thank You.
