Newest designer artwork - James Longacre - in progress.

Just thought I'd give a preview of what the James Lonagacre drawing looks like at this point. Still have about a week left of work on it, and I'm taking off for New York tomorrow not to return until the 11th of December. I won't be finished with this one until Christmas week. PLEASE reserve payment on this one until I can get it done and find out if printing costs will be higher. I am afraid I'll have to go up a bit on this one from previous ones because of the costs involved.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Maybe you could incorporate an image of his daughter Sarah from an 1840 sketch of his, it's coin related.
The model for the Indian cent design is where fact and legend mingle. Obviously a white female and not a Native American, the profile has been attributed to both Longacre's daughter Sarah and the Greco-Roman statue Venus Accroupie ("Crouching Venus"). The facial features have many similarities to that used on Longacre's 1854 $3 gold coin and to a lesser extent his previous gold designs, whose profile recurs with many different headdresses in Longacre's sketchbooks from ten years earlier. Though Longacre never disclosed the source of his inspiration in his writings, one of his early drawings of Sarah does bear a striking resemblance to the profile of his IH design.

Heh...funny. I wrote that on Nov 28th. I did return, but on the 13th. Seems that O'Hare can't keep their equipment running through an inch of light snow. They ended up having to bed me down for a night while they pulled their heads out.
I am back, I am working on the drawing, but it will be the first of the year before this one is finished. It has a lot more detail in it than any of the others I have done to date.

Longacre did a lot more coins than Brenner and Saint Gaudens too.

Which is precisely why this one has so much more detail. I had to do something in the background to make him stand out better. He has white hair, whitish skin, and doesn't have a lot of contrast. I figured a collage of all the coins he designed in the background would add a nice touch. Unfortunately it's taking far longer to complete than the others.
