Heard and interesting and somewhat self-evident analysis on BBC World radio just now. The commentator said that among many other things driving the price up (Chinese and Indian consumption, for example) was that many foreign countries hold vast quantities of US dollars as a hedge--a haven to park their wealth. These nations are losing faith in the dollar as its value falls, and not wanting to have their wealth evaporate as the dollar loses ground, have turned back to gold as the safe haven. They're selling $$ and buying gold with the money.

The ECB is going to raise interest rate on Dec 1st. Even though they have said that they are not as crazy as the Feds to keep raising interest rate every month, analysts do expect them to raise their interest rate couple of times next year.
What does this do ? Drive the dollar down. Iran's oil bourse in Euro is going to help weaken the dollar much more.

Not hard to believe, with about 1/2 to 2/3s of all U. S. currency in circulation held outside of the United States, and a lot of jobs leaving this country and wages being cut back.
Same here, I bought a 1914S St. Gauden MS64 (as close to bullion as I will go) also a 1883 CC Eagle RAW (just had to do it). Looking at another St. G as we speak.

<< <i>Aluminum is one of the big winners today. It's closed up nearly 2.5%. I can't recall a bigger one day gain. >>
