Bursting at the seams with old coin auction catalogs

I'm sure many collectors have had to deal with this situation. Way too many old coin auction catalogs
to store away anymore and yet you hate to have to get rid of them. The bookshelf is crammed beyond
capacity and many more are piled up down in the basement in boxes etc.
I suppose I could rent a storage place at one of those "U rent it" places but that is going just too far.
Ebay? Hmm... I suspect that only the famous name sales are really in demand and not the run of the
mill no name sales.
What to do? Sell, give them away, recycle?
I wouldn't want to get rid of all of them but something has to be done.
What are your experiences dealing with something like this?

If you want to keep a few old big sales for nostaglia, that's fine,
but I don't see them having any value for a very, very long time.

Sounds like a very good idea.

C.E. Bullowa sale...CoinHunter... The pictures of the raw gold and 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar make it worth it. Plus it's the right size! And as a neat bonus, Ron Guth is listed as the auctioneer.
Does Heritage also send you the Sports Memorabilia sale catalogues? Since they are few and far between they actually have some meaning. Sports people that don't have a clue that Heritage even exists love them!! The pictures are great.
Also, if you happen to have the recent Heritage one that was moved to Dallas from Florida because of the hurricane, a board member is looking for it.

I have kept them for reference, but like you I haven't looked thru them for some time.
I probably should toss mine out too.

What I do is look at the oldest ones and dream of the riches I'd have if I would have bought all those coins, that have now doubled and tripled in price.
Thanks UW for the tip.

Hello,
My first post. As a bookseller I can tell you that there is a strong demand for auction catalogs of most sorts. Given how many coin collectors there are I would be surprised if this did not hold true for coin auction catalogs as well, even though I do not have direct experience in selling them myself. For example, there are a number of sellers on eBay that only sell auction catalogs.
The idea of catalogs being more valuable where a record was set or a well known coin or collection was sold is right on target.

as you can see some sell for decent money and they are easy to ship.
I live in Ann Arbor, so if you live near by I would like to see them if you are going to donate or toss them. Depending on what you have I may be interested in purchasing.
Cheers,
Michael
