Russ, I'm a bit confused - which image do you think is better/crisper?image

Dramatically better. One thing to be honest that I never liked about your old images of mint state coins was the dramatic hot points you would get on the images. Browsing eBay, I could tell if a coin was being auctioned by you just from the preview images. Of course the resolution is better but I really like the fact that the contrast is much better now and there are no hot points.

I think I'm going to look for one of those Nikon's- I need something decent for a modest amount. And nice pic of a nice morgan!

Awwww, Russ - you've just gotten better with the lighting. Don't try and blame it on the camera.

  • very nice pics..............and only 2.1 megapixels?........what am I doing wrong with my Olympus C-5000 5.0 megapixel camera then...............I CANNOT get pics that sharp. Apparently, I don't know how to work the camera correctly or megapixels don't matter a whole lot.

I've been using a Nikon Coolpix 995 for three years and believe me it is a fine digital camera for macro photography. Nikon's come with a bayonet mount and adapt to a stereo microscope very easily. CoinOptics also sell a light dome (globe) for Nikons, that if used outside on a sunny day, will provide a shutter speed to 1/500 and f-stop in 6.5-7.5 range. Perfect for deep contrasts...

    Russ's picture is awesome.

Used, it came out in 1999. They can be had now for down around $100. I picked mine off for $91 shipped.

    Thanks Russ . . .

I'll be picking one of these up. Have always wanted to be able to post pix . . . have some stuff I'd like to show, but have never had a decent camera. Of course, now I'll be doing some searches . . . have to figure out the attachments . . . uploading . . . etc. Might as well show some good pix as opposed to average . . .

    Russ:

    Great photo!!

Are you shooting on a tripod, and what lighting setup is involved?
    When in doubt, don't.
