Gee, I thought that Nevada's would feature a slot machine, a hooker, and a mushroom cloud.

As a group, those are five really nice coins! I can't wait to see what they all look like in DCAM.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • Those are the best designed state quarters so far. Can't wait for them to be released. They will look sweet in DCAM!
  • I like Nebraska but the Dakotas stink

As far as I can see on those pictures, shadowing is imporant to how they look! I dare anyone to hold a quarter and get some shadow on it!

It can't look as good as the picture.

Only North Dakota seems to have it right!

  • Overall, better than average.

However, Nevada is too busy, and that non-native pheasant on the SD quarter needs to be shot down.

  • I like them all but Colorado's! I live in fort collins colorado and was watching the selection of the quarter. Personally I feel the the governor Screwed us royally. That quarter doesn't represent colorado very well. There were several designs that were far better than the one chosen by the gov. Now I wish i hadn't voted for that Tool!

    Thanks for the link.

I like the Colorado and North Dakota may be the best yet. South Dakota is also nice and Nebraska isn't bad. All in all it looks like a really good year.

  • Here is a poll conducted in the state of the five final designs. The 5th coin design was voted by the people, the one the gov went with was second.

I like Nevada the best. I wish the mint used the Artists of the Fine Arts Commission with the 2004 and before coins. I think there was a lot of missed opportunities. I wish SD would have picked something else. They already have a series of Mt. Rushmore commems. It is just repetitive.

  • Not real crazy about Colorado. Nebraska reminds me of the Oregon comm. reverse (kinda neat). Overall, a pretty attractive group.

I like the North Dakota design and the Nebraska design. South Dakota is ok, but not my favorite.
The Colorado design shows Long's Peak, and even though I can see that landmark from my house, I would have chosen something different. Does anyone think it odd that the Colorado quarter says "Colorado" on it twice ? Here is what I would have done for Colorado:

I think they really missed on the Nevada quarter design. There are so many historic things they could have chosen. Like this one:

  • Statehood quarters are such trash. I don't mean to offend anyone who collects them (I must admit I have two sets that I will complete), it's just that the designs ALL look like somebody printed them out on a dot matrix printer and carefully connected the dots. South Dakota is the only one of the '06 quarters to show a design that makes any real sense. Colorado can't come up with something better than a mountain and some trees? Nevada looks like a poster on my four year old niece's wall. ND is on the buffalo band wagon. I guess guess that just leaves Nebraska's lonely stone phallus. Is there truly nothing the governor of Nebraska thinks is more interesting than Chimney Rock in the entire state?

I have an idea. After were done watching the parade of terrible designs on Statehood quarters in 2009 let's put Liberty back on our coins. Can we start a petition or something? Maybe I'll call a congressman...

Jeez... sorry about the rant folks. I just feel like people aren't even thinking of trying to make nice coins anymore.
  • Does anybody have a picture of Chimney Rock handy? As I recall it, the quarter shows the wagon heading EASTward, not WESTward. Is this a family that gave up and went back home?

I like this one the most. The mint ruined it in their rendition -- it looks like a hunched over astronaut.

  • What I always think of when I see the Nevada design is the Mustang Ranch. It was one of Nevada's legal brothels (In fact a very famous one, the first legal brothel in the state) that the government took over when the owner got behind on his taxes. They ran it for a short time but then shut down an operating business and threw people out of work because they thought it didn't look good for the IRS to be running a house of prostitution or for the government to be trying to sell a brothel.

So I consider the NV quarter to be a Mustang Ranch commemorative. (I get a kick out of it because the Governor of NV was adament that he didn't want the designs of the quarter to have images relating to gambling and instaed he gets one that hints at the "other thing" that NV was always famous for. legalized prostitution. I think gambling would have been better. image )

  • As someone who grew up on a ranch in eastern Nevada, I'm extremely disappointed in the the Nevada design. The design with the aces is my favorite quater to date.

Your pretty observant. That was one of the compalaints about the design along with no matter which direction their going, they're not staying in Nebraska.

Some of the better designs in the series, except for the South Dakota, which relies on Mt. Rushmore.

I like this one better than the frilly horses. During the selection process, they insisted on no gaming motifs -- which is stupid, given most of the state's economy was built on gaming. And I thought DC did it in a tasteful way in his rendition. But Noooooo, we get frilly horses!!

I like them all. Has anyone pulled a West Virginia from circulation yet? Still haven't seen one here in York, PA. I've seen about half a dozen Kansas which I don't like. Too much open space. They should have made the buffalo bigger.
