1921-P Morgan! VAM Found???? :)

I was at a Gun/Knife show today and found this... It has some nice die cracks on the Obverse and Reverse.
What'd you think? A vam or not?

Left to right around the coin...

Obverse

Starts at the tip of her neck through the first star then into the edge of the coin
Picks up again on the 3rd star but only slightly to the 4th star
Picks up again on the 7th star to the E, but very slightly

Big crack starts at the M in (UNUM) continues through all the stars and then through the 1 in the date and stops before the 2 in the date

Reverse

Starts at the T in (UNITED) does a pyramid line to the E, (Crack gets bigger) through the D and from the D it goes to the Eagles wing tip. It splits at the Eagle's Wing tip, One crack goes to the rim the other stops.
It starts at the rim again, to the S then the T,A,T, E and stops!

You can see the Big Cracks in the photos, I hope.
Thanks,
SM

  • All Morgan dollars have a VAM number. There are probably over 100 different VAM numbers on the 1921-P alone.

Die cracks on Morgan dollars are quite common. It's only when they progress into actual die breaks, with missing pieces of metal, that they are given an individual VAM number based on the breakage. The coin in your photos appears to have normal die cracks. And without very clear, very large, very high definition images, it would be nearly impossible to identify this coin for you.

I wish I could be more helpful.
