Why has nobody bid on this yet?

1834 Bust Half

I need one for my type set, but I'm curious as to why nobody has bid on this yet. Is the starting bid too high? Is it too fugly?

I like it. The price is a bit high on the scale for a VG coin but it's not moon money high. Pics too sucky to attribute it to see if it's rare or not. There also seem to be an abundance of circulated bust coins on eBay right now.

looks nice and the price is right, well for the moment.
  • Is that eagle doubled on the reverse, or is that just the lighting?

i would not count on it to be doubling, but it would be a nice
    bonus if it was.

sure seems like it. does it not?

No doubling. Just an optical effect that the devices give off on these coins in some images.

    Just another "full retail" listing...zzzzzzzzzzz.
    All glory is fleeting.

Thats kind of what I was thinking. Kind of takes all the fun out of bidding, huh? I know I enjoy it more when I feel like I might get a deal.

Nothing wrong with selling a coin for what it's worth.

    hedgehog,

i am battling that very idea in my head right now.

someone pointed out two coins to me that i would like to own.
low mintage, sleepers in my mind. AU 1889 and 1890 P half eagles.
well the person who is selling them has them priced 650 each...

this is more than any heritage auction for the same coins..
strong money according to the price guides. "full retail" and then
    a bit more.

one has to think it through carefully. 50 bucks or 500 bucks... when
you pay full retail you better get a hell of a coin that is properly graded.

I agree with you. Everyone has to eat. I guess I'm trying to hunt down a deal. If I wanted to pay full retail plus some, I'd go to a coin shop. Also, if that coin was BIN, I'd probably have the impression that he's just trying to get what the coin is worth. However, from my perspective, and evidently from the perspective of other bidders, his starting price is too high. A low start might encourage some bidding action, and then he might have ended up selling it for more. Who knows?

    And, thanks for comiserating, fc.
  • As the others have said, it's priced too high.
