Care of Morgan Silver Dollars

I have a few Morgan Dollars from the early and late 1800s.
I wanted to know how to care for them. Can a mild polish such as NEVER DULL wadding polish be used, or is nothing revommened?

How should they be stored?

If no mint letter is present how can one tell what mint the coin was minted at?

Thanks

  • First off, Welcome!!!!

2nd....NO SILVER POLISH OR ABRASIVE CLEANING SUBSTANCES...a mild dip in acetone and then air dried is about all you need to do to them.

3rd...if no mintmark under the bow on the reverse....it was minted in Philadelphia.

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
  • First off ... there are no Morgans from the early 1800s. Second, DO NOT WIPE, CLEAN, OR POLISH THEM!!!!! You will make them virtually worthless. Finally, do not dip them in acetone either! Take them to a coin shop and ask a professional what he thinks, or post pictures here and I am sure that you will get all of the responses that you need.

    Welcome! Yes, never clean them.

Dates, and large photos of the coins in question are always appreciated. It helps with the advice....you may also get instant messages with offers of purchase!
