Poll: What is YOUR most expensive coin in the Dansco 7070 type set?

RYKRYK Posts: 35,800 ✭✭✭✭✭
There are many inexpensive and a few expensive and difficult coins in the Dansco 7070 1800-present type set. While one can allocate his/her money however he/she pleases, a few coins stand out as the likely most expensive in the set. On which coin have you spent the most? (Exclude gold, as this is not part of the standard set.) If you are a type collector but do not use the 7070, please feel free to respond, as well.

1849 $1, followed closely by 1814 and 1803 Large Cents.

My 1820 Large cent is really high grade, so it is probably the most money. However, the seated dollars, the Capped Bust quarter and the Capped Bust halves run in close seconds. The seated dollars probably would have taken the cake had I not found really nice AU specimens.

The majority (90%+) of my set is mid-MS range, so there aren't many "cheap" coins in there.

I believe my most expensive coin is a 1917-D SLQ in MS 64 FH, but I don't have the seated dollar, trade dollar, classic head cent, or the capped bust quarter yet...Mike

The most expensive coins in my clipped type set, in descending order:

    1) Standing Liberty Quarter (but only because it is AU, I've since found one in Fine which wouldn't even make the top 10)
    2) Seated Liberty Quarter with arrows
    3) Draped Bust Half Cent
    4) Draped Bust Quarter
    5) Draped Bust Cent

The most expensive non gold type set coin I have is my Trade Dollar, which is a VF I think..... Now if I toss in my CC Morgan that would be it.....

But most of my type set only goes to the seated liberty coins in F/VF grade.....

I paid $15.00 more for the 1812 Large cent than for my older Seated Dollar.

Actually in the album, you mean? And not gold? I hung onto pleasing choice AU examples of the no-motto seated dollar and the 1809 "III edge" half dollar. Both are in there, and are probably worth about the same. I voted for the dollar in your poll, though, because I only put the bustie in after I sold the one I really thought of as part of my set back in August. It was a much cheaper coin. I have an outrageously pretty capped bust half dime (thanks Mark Feld) more spendy than either of these, but its place in the album is kept by a cheaper and more ordinary AU piece.

I have feelers out for a trade dollar that may end up being the most expensive piece yet. I want a zonker, but from what I understand I may be in for a long wait.

My 7070 doesn't include a gold page. The Classic Head Large Cent and Seated Dollar with Motto tie for first.

I have a few that are about the same price range...but prolly the most expensive was my 1829 Bust half. That will change most likely when I get into the pre-Morgan dollars though.

  • Easy answer for me, Classic Large Cent. I had to go above my budget to find anything that was even close to decent looking. It took me almost 3 years to get the courage to spend a lot of money for such an ordinary looking coin, but the empty hole was driving me crazy.

My advice, if you're going to go beyond your budget, do it on the large cents.

My most expensive coin has been a choice AU 1855 WA seated half. I could have purchased a less expensive one, but I liked the look of this one and bought it (from Mark Feld).

RYK---Can you add a "Show me the results" option? Not everyone uses this 7070 Dansco album but are interested in the results of your poll.

Definately my Classic Head Large Cent in PCGS VF30. Very difficult and expensive to find without the corrosion. The Seated Dollars were a close second here as well...
