My father-in-law has a file cabinet full of cards in his basement. Just about every Topps card produced from 1954 to about 1963 that he collected as a kid. And I mean entire 4 drawer file cabinet full of many duplicates and complete sets from each year, most in very sweet mint condition.
I know it's not cases upon cases of 1952 Topps, but I think there are far more, shall I say "elder statesmen", in this country with file cabinets and shoe boxes like his (or significantly more valuable) than we think, most of whom even to this day wouldn't know or understand (or care to understand) the concept of graded cards, not to mention with a gross misunderstanding of how much their cards are really worth.
Interesting question with no answer.
Back in the late 80s I wondered about this and there was some extraordinary stuff that had surfaced.
I don't even think fat Larry is sitting on a 52T vending case.
Now, I've got some really cool 92UD BB!
