Raw 1797 Half Cent on eBay - would anyone here bid on this?

eBay

Being very uninformed on cast counterfeits, I find myself very reluctant to consider bidding on eBay for anything like this uncertified 1797 half cent. In a holder, I might be a bidder, but raw - no way Jose.

Would anyone here put a bid in on this coin - assuming you wanted it in the first place? Why would this seller want to sell it raw anyways? How much would it cost to get this slabbed? How about turnaround time?imageimage

Looks legit to me, right down to the porous surfaces.....

I wouldn't now (at $400) - I'd have a hard time paying real money for anything like that
looks corroded, wire brushed, polished and retoned... And I should know :-)

Real but heavily corroded. Of the top 3 TPGS, only ANACS would slab it with the problem noted.

Don't think I'd go after it given it's $400 and the reserve isn't met, but it *looks* real to me.

Looks to me like an electrotype counterfeit.

Looks real to me. Real doctored, I don't know. But it is at the high end of retail for the grade.

Not the coin for me, fer shure.

Its real but has very bad porosity/corosion. Looks like a metal detector find.
