MTG: PSA 10 Beta prices softening.................?

Hey guys,

In the last week or so with all the PSA 10 auctions...ive picked up some really expensive and rare beta 10's

For example i won the BETA 10 Scrubland for 325.00 and a many more. Plus i used all 3 of those paypal codes that were posted and they all worked image saved me 45.00

Anyone else think these prices seen to be lower than normal???
Is it b/c the population #'s are rising or what?

o well im happt image

anyone wanna take some guesses????????

  • yes there is too many for sell ... There is 3-7 poeples biding on it, if not i think it s would go much lower even. it s because they sell a bunch at same time i think. If they were selling one ever week it would sell higher. Some of them sold as much as i paid some unlimited PSA 10 image

  • Their is a limited market for those that can afford the prices of PSA 10's, so the lack of bidders don't drive up the prices. Such cards should be auctioned periodically to help bid wars rather than all at once so people can pick and choose their bids.

  • Hi Rudy,

I don't feel like it is the populations of Beta 10s that is a factor as much as the small market of collectors that are currently looking for them. It still isn't like there is one of each rare coming up for auction once a month - far from it. The populations on most cards are still pretty low. Steven was right on when he posted about the Wheel of Fortune 10 not coming around very often!

A few factors that I think may have an effect:

    - Not only is the group of collectors small, but most of us are also collecting other sets simultaneously and that has an effect on our current collector base as well. It feels like a lot of the boys have been drained pretty well in the past few months or half a year.

    - Alphas seem to be more of the hot set right now, and Arabians to some extent.

    - The number of bidders with deep pockets is smaller still, and if the 1 or two of those types already have the card as a 10 there won't be the high bid in there.

    - The number of people collecting complete sets is smaller than those that would bid on P9s, so there isn't as much action for the lesser rares - I picked up a few of these this week.

    - We've had some nice additions to the club lately, and some of them are content to fill their beta sets with the lesser grade cards for better prices.

  • I've watched DAcardwold's auctions for over a year an a half now. It seems to me that whenever they list their big cards they tend to get prices on the lower range. I think this is because they tend to list alot of cards at one time. They tend to oversupply the market. Since there is a finite demand for these cards, that oversupply causes prices to drop. In the past I have been careful to only list a maximum of say 5 Beta PSA 10 rares at a time. I even look to make sure there are not more than about 10 up on ebay at one time. DAcardworld, list 10-20 at a time and can have as many as 30-40 listed at one time. Watch what happens to psa 10 beta prices when there is a smaller supply. The prices will naturally rise. I bet over the next 3 months, you'll see very few psa 10 beta rares listed.

Oh yeah, my set is done so I'm not bidding against you anymore.image

  • Hey Rudy,

I think everyone here has hit on the various reasons cards aren't going higher. Right now you have a very thin market at the high end - I bet you can name everyone who might be interested in these cards, as can I. With so few players, a small change can throw off the prices quite easily. Several of the "usual suspects" already had these cards, and several more are not bidding anymore for one reason or another. It only takes 2 to drive up the prices - I can tell you that if I was still bidding hard you wouldn't have gotten the Mask, Scrubland and others so cheap image .

These things cycle, and prices could just as easily go higher. As Steven said, there has been a massive amount of cards go to auction over the last 6 weeks or so - many people are just tapped out. I wouldn't worry too much about prices bottoming out, at least at the high end. Enjoy your bankroll and bid away before someone like Mr. Thunderkeller(?) hops in and outbids you image

  • I'm going down to Phoenix next week to meet Thomas "Thunder" Keller and help him prepare a Beta set for submission to PSA. I know the set he got and the person he bought it from lives about 5 miles from me. It's beautiful and I fully expect a set average around 9.5. There will be alot of gems in that set. It is truely amazing.

Now whether, he will register the set is another matter. I do know, that between that set and the cards that he purchased from me and Dacardworld, he's done for a little while. However, he does have some deep pockets.

So buy those gems up while available.

  • I also think it has been a factor of too many pieces for sale at the same time. I know I am going to save my last Beta rare 10's for just before Christmas so all you Beta collectors can stuff your stocking with them image

    Happy Holidays to all!

  • It look obvious for every body that they sell too many high value cards at the same time .... I wonder why they do this at D&A ... Beside this, if they sold 2 every weeks it would make them known from more poeple that could be interessed in starting a graded set. Here it 20 high value cards in 2 weeks and that s it for months ...
Oh well ! it s good for Beta collectors, they just need to keep money for the D&A wave image
