What is the longest you have waited to find that coin.........

Still waiting I've seen many examples but not one that I want in my set. The coin in question is a 1925-S Lincoln, pricey in 64 and above and very hard to locate a solid, nice coin.

Longest I had was about a year and a half wait for the last coin to complete a set. It wasn't cost, it was scarcity. Got it though

Took 3+ years to find an original and problem free 1871-CC dime in EF grade to finish my registry set. Looked at a lot of candidates, but was patient until the "right" coin appeared. Then the purchase becomes very special.

I've been looking for a solid full horn VF 1916-S Buffalo for over a year now. All I've seen up to now have such weak centers they wouldn't fit with the others in my VF set.

This is probably the toughest coin in the set of Draped Bust, heraldic eagle half dollars by major (Redbook) variety;
I still need the 1806/inverted 6 and who knows how long it will take to find the "right" coin for my collection.

Still waiting (6+ years)... In the beginning it was price; now it's scarcity. If I ever see one, it's mine, regardless of price.

Heck, I've been looking for a PQ 1935-P Buffalo nickel in MS66 for at least 4 years. With one exception, everyone that I've ever seen either had spots, a less than full strike, or hits in prime focal area. This should be an easy coin to locate, but alas, it's my Moby Dick.

I've also been looking for a solidly graded 1929-D Buffalo in MS64 for several years. I found one, but the price was way to much.

I've been looking for a 1955DD Lincoln Cent since forever. If I knew they existed back in 55 I would have started looking for one back then but it has been about 30 to 40 years now so finally broke down and bought one this year.

I have not found a white lustrous Cincinnatti PDS set in MS64 after 7 years of hard looking. They all look like crap.

10+ years for a 1936 3-O-IV DDO Walker and 30+years for fully struck 1929-P, 1930-P, and 1931-S Buffalos.

To purchase a truly gem pre-1852 seated quarter (1840-1851).
I thought starting out in 1980 that this would be achievable without spending a ton of money. Not so.

I have seen 2 coins that qualified that I could not afford:

1840 WD GEM 65-66 Norweb 1988
1850 NGC67 - David Akers 2003

All the others were pretenders even up to grades MS66

I started collecting color-toned early commems almost a year ago and one that I've been searching for since then is this one. I picked this one up this weekend. It has incredible luster and beautiful toning (Even nicer than I've been able to image). They seem to be tough to locate with both nice luster AND nice toning.

so far 3 weeks it took me to find the coin nice S mint coin in a high grade ( that wasnt too high populated) in my price range. next i think ill go for a $20 gold coin. im looking to save 2500$ up so i should get something nice for that dont ya think

It took me 8 years to finally get my 1909VDB Matte Proof Lincoln Cent. I won it in a Heritage auction in 2002 in an ANACS PR63 holder. It had a spot over Lincoln's head and it took me a few months to convince PCGS to reholder it as a PR61. Didn't matter to me. I own a very rare coin which is just not available very often. I got this coin for just under $2k and I believe it is a bargin! Steve

Since 1973 for my 1796 and 97 halves (looking for F-VF). It has been a mix of scarcity and price--never seem to have the available cash when one appears and never can find one available when I have the disposable income.

It took me like fifteen minutes at taco bell one night trying to find a quarter (a common date, too) so I could pay for my tacos. Wouldn't you know it, I forgot my wallet at home and had to search high and low for $3.54 in my car. Grrrr, that ticked me off and the girl at the window wasn't very nice, either !

But ya know what really sucked ? She was getting paid by the hour, so I just helped her make a little OT. You'd think they would appreciate guys like me

Back in my early days when I first started looking for a GEM Dansco, I can remember farting around coin shows and bobbleheading at each table and PASSING on ........... MONSTERS.......cuz I already ..."haaaaaddd" one.

As soon as my synapses got their required nutrition and told me to WAKE UP....I started getting what was NICE no matter what it was.

I ....have.....no "collection." Just a pile of neat hard-to-find motley coins that are all "that" coin ...to someone.

As soon as you quit looking for "that" coin, you will find one that WILL be.

It took me 2 years + to locate a nice VF 1796 liberty cap cent for a reasonable price. They're available, but they trade for prices that aren't justified, IMO, due to being encapsulated in (overgraded) XF40 to AU50 holders. Two years was also required for a nice VF/XF 1847/ small 7 cent, which was the last Redbook variety I needed to complete the Braided Hair cents. I paid dearly for it.

I collected Morgan dollars as a teenager in the early 1960's. I then stopped and resumed in 1980/1981 or so. I completed my set (the Registry doesn't foresee circulations strikes plus the 1895 P Proof) with the 1895 P in February 2001. I had drooled over the 1895 practically since I started the first time around.
