Gold is up over $5 today

Gold settled up $3.40 and is up another $2 as I type in afterhour globex trading.....We are trading at $492 plus some change......I am almost certain we bust through $500 this week as it is a shortened week with fewer participants....

I think most people do not believe this run has legs.....I for one believe something is going on which is pushing up gold beyond the usual seasonal tendencies to rally until January.....

You're killing me. I collect small gold coins. Should I start collecting BIG gold coins?

Besides gold over $490, the HUI index (unhedged gold shares) closed over 250, another key milestone.

Small gold coins will get pulled along just fine with the larger ones.
Have no fear. Gold will continue to act as a propellant with the numismatic coin market in general.

Wonder if the Plunge Protection Team will take a stance here at $500/oz....one would have thought they'd be fighting tooth and nail.

    Longacre,

Why am I killing you? Just collect anything with gold in it.....Seems the market is telling us something is happening....You can buy generics and do well I believe....At some point I trade rare gold and hold liquid coins like generics or American Eagles....

With the twin deficits, the recent Fed decision to HIDE M-3, the new Fed chairman who believes in dropping dollars from a helicopter if necessary, to the rising cost of everything......I just feel gold coins are a place to put a lot of one's money....

Maybe they are trying to intervene, but it's not working?
I don't think the PPT can control hard assets as easily as they can with paper.

Platinum and Palladium are the real winners this month. Just a few weeks ago it was below $200.
