Set Registry BCS

Hey gang,

I've noticed in a few other threads that a number of us - me included, all have pretty strong ideas about some factors we believe should be taken into consideration towards the Registry awards. Now, I'm not saying that anything that we could come up with would be any better than the job PSA already does. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty skeptical of some of the BCS rankings from time to time. But, I figure it might be a pretty cool and goofy exercise to see if we can come up with some sort of generic formula that could identify the top sets across the different categories.

A few items that I can think of....

Set Rating
Set Rating versus #2
Set Rating versus Average of Top 10
# of collectors with greater than 10% for that set

What else can you guys think of?

Ratio of number of cards in pop higher column vs. total number of cards graded for that set.

    For example, pop higher = 271. Total cards graded in set = 79,770. Ratio = 271 / 79,770 = 0.0034 (0.34%)

I personally would like to see an award given to set that has pictures also? I know I am going to get killed on that one but I don't think looking at number columns is all that fun! Somebody at PSA should provide this service? I would think for an extra 1.00 you can have scans done of your cards before they get shipped. Note on submission all 8's , 9's and 10's going into Joe Doe's 72 set? Maybe all cards going into my sets , then you can delete the ones you don't want in there, lower grades or duplicates? The size will be right and picture nice and sharp! Nothing against Allan,Frank or Frank but I want to see the 75 mini Aaron. I am not downgrading the hard work and hours that turn into years you guys put into your sets it just makes the registry more fun for others if there is pictures.
2nd I would also like to see some sort own submission reward were if you are submitting the cards you get extra towards the point system. I am guilty of it also but anybody can bid on Ebay or buy from an auction house. If you have a 75 Topps set that you submitted 75% of the set yourself that should count towards something? After all think about how much more time, money and effort goes into making your own submissions!

I know this would be a tough one to keep track of with all the sets out there. This was also a thread lately as well. How about the number of 1 of 1's in a set. I am not talking about the only PSA10, but the only 1 in the pop report. Therefore the only graded version. This would help people in the player set cat, that have amassed quite an extensive collection of "rare" cards.

Another option would be to group sets by:
    1. decade & sport
    2. player sets & sport

I can see how this thing could snowball, but I think the idea of people submitting sets for consideration would be helpful. If you collect NFL player sets then pick a handfull of them to rank. No system you ever be perfect, just like the real BCS.

    Favre TD Reciever Autos
    Football HOF Player/etc. Auto Set
    Football HOF Rc's
  • How about the boarders of the cards ie; the difficulties in finding a Mint specimen! These difficulties in finding Mint grades in certain years of cards clearly should have an impact on award decisions!
  • Also the populations of every graded card in each set could be factored in the mix as well.
  • The (as Frank calls it) "sexy appeal" of the card should definately be included in the rankings image
