Paypal Question

I sold a group of coins outside of ebay the other night to a guy for a bit over $400. I sent the customer a request for funds with an itemized bill, which he in turn paid. Paypal requires signature confirmation on sales of over $250 to qualify for the seller protection program. My question is: Why is this a requirement? If you insure a package for $50.01 (and I insure all my packages that are worth $50+) or more the postal service requires a signature anyway. IMO this is just another added expense that is really not needed since there is already
the signature for the insurance purposes, which also confirms receipt of the package.

Can anyone explain Paypals logic behind this? Or maybe just your thoughts on the subject.

I did pose this question to paypal's customer service, but, as of yet, they have not replied. I am wondering if the will respond at all. It wouldn't be the first time they have ignored a question from me.

Thanks

Roger

Because it can be verified online, whereas plain jane insurance cannot.

  • Russ nailed it.

It does seem like a duplication of fee's but PayPal only gives you a week to show proof of delivery. The regular blue slip can can take over a month to get a copy of from the post office.

  • Shipping and Shipping Documentation Qualification Conditions

The seller ships the item(s) to the buyer within 7 days of receiving payment.

The seller provides reasonable proof of delivery from an independent shipper. The delivery must be trackable online. Proof of delivery should show that the address shipped to corresponds to the address on the Transaction Details page (see 3.c above). If a reversal occurs, you will need to provide PayPal with the name of your chosen shipping provider and the online tracking number. For your convenience, PayPal provides a list of popular and currently approved shippers.

For transactions equal to $250.00 USD or more in value, the seller needs to provide a proof of receipt signed, or otherwise acknowledged, by the buyer. A proof of delivery from the shipper which does not contain the buyer’s signature or other acknowledgement will not be sufficient.

  • OK I can see the point here. But I have yet to print a label from papal's site that shows the term "signature confirmation." It's out there, I've had it on packages received from teletrade.
