because it was sent to segs in the pcgs slab.

they even put the pcgs number on their label.

segs will do whatever it takes to make a buck and become respectable.

but in reality they just creep me out.

Please tell me that someone did not pay $4995.00 for that coin. $249.00 is even too high. The price reminds me of other prices that can be seen on Ebay and Web Sites.

    Geez......

This is one of the few coins we have come across that we're not anxious to sell at a great market rate.

    Say what??

Beep beep back up the truck for a second. The slab says "shelf doubled date," which is a euphemism for machine doubling as far as I know. The closeup of the date looks like it, too. This clown is trying to pass it off as legitimate die doubling.

I agree. Sleaseball seller, sleaseball tpg, some things just do not shock me as they used to though.
  • The mercury dimes are the most heavily strike doubled of all the coins made by the U.S. mints. You can literally put a full set of strike doubled mercs together.
There is no premium for this sort of doubling.
Larry Briggs uses the term "Shelf Doubling", instead of strike doubling.
This Blue Moon has a real racket going.
If you're going into coin dealing, print out his auctions for future reference so you can make big bucks selling trash.

  • By the way gil........... The SEGS label doesn't say double die on it.
That's in the auction hype by Blue Moon.

  • He probably had it reslabbed by SEGS just to get the "SHELF DOUBLED" notation, knowing that it could be used to fool someone into thinking it was a double die. I have heard people go by the SEGS booth at regional shows (near Chatanooga where SEGS is based) "shopping" for a grade from SEGS, where basically they are told what a coin will grade in an effort to have them submit it to SEGS.

    Dave, Dave Dave.............
Stop by the ANACS table at the next big show you go to and they'll give you a grade opinion on your coins too. So will the NGC folks. If you want to submit your coin okay, if not, okay.
    That's common, Dave.
But I do agree with you that someone wanted this merc in a slab that'd put doubling remarks on the label. Probably to rip the unwary. Was it Blue Moon? Maybe. But maybe that's the way they got the coin.
One thing though, the hype Blue Moon put on their auction is clearly unethical.
