    I like Topps Pristine.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

My vote goes to the Fleer Greats of the Game autos.

Since 2001 my 'obvious' favorite has been Topps Heritage.

It can be expensive but the quality of the cards and the total potential inserts makes it a winner IMO.

I did like the debut of the Cracker Jack series also but I can only find the funds and time for one set a year at this time.

I used to do a modern FB and Bkb set but not anymore.

I like those and the Fan Favorite autos also Boo.

It's just too expensive to try to even come close to completing the set.

    mike

In fact, here's a card I just got in the mail - forgot about it - wife sent it in to Topps - it's 10/10.

Not sure why anyone would want it unless they were completing the set?

To be honest, when I see MLBPA, I think of the strike that ended the 94 season.

Geez, can't you take a joke? Did I strike a nerve or something? Relax man.

I figured you were just having some fun.

I don't think Boo meant anything deep either.

I believe the problem here lies in the fact that there hasn't been a lot of good conversations about anything lately.

I enjoy the updates on ebay and scammers but I also enjoy hearing what you guys are up to and what you enjoy collecting.

Either way, modern vs. vintage has always been a "healthy" debate here and one I enjoy also.

No, you didn't strike a nerve. And I'm not going to get into a world war about this. But I would be lying if I said I don't get tired of people taking shots at modern cards on these boards. You never see the modern collectors here, like JJ copper or even Joe Stalin, pipe in on a vintage thread with a smart remark about how they don't like vintage cards, and I don't think it's too much to ask for the vintage collectors here to reciprocate.

I dont like the modern market all ...but i do enjoy the heritage sets.

havent we been through this before? Actually I love vintage cards...I just don't see how one person's grade on a card can
make the difference between a nice card and a great card....people are spending huge amounts of money on the holder
    and not the card.

I can appreciate both in their raw forms...and I know that might not be a popular statment on a grading board, but as dumb
as you think paying 300 bucks for a chrome card of a guy who hasn't played yet, I think it is just as dumb to spend 300
bucks on a guy who batted .120 his entire career just because it is from a high series set.

When I think of favorites, I have to think of cards and sets that will never be done again..mostly because of cost....00 GOTG comes
to mind, even though I would never spend 250 bucks on Tommy Heinrich. 97 Legends football also comes to mind.

but I will have to agree that topps heritage is my favorite....2001 auto set to be exact....funny it is meant to duplicate the
52 set....kind of a bring together of vintage collectors and modern collectors......I think it worked...at least for some of us
    more open minded collectors.

    Thanks
    Kevin
  • Mike - Thanks...glad someone saw my post for the humor that was intended.

Boo - I'm not looking to cause a fight over this. Modern cards certainly are needed and have their place in the hobby. There are just so many negative aspects in my mind that I could spend hours discussing. I do however like the certified autos.

    Enjoy!

I did enjoy the original SPX hologram cards, thought those were really cool, were you would tilt the card and see the head shot below do a smile or wink, then they had to go ruin it with the hockey SPX were some of the head shots were just that and not even 3D. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Edit: These I think were earlier than 2000 though.

I personally am a vintage collector now. But I spent a huge amount of $ on modern boxes hoping for great pulls. I still like the UD Century Legends sets and Sweet Spots. I think these sets are great for modern or vintage collectors. Ive seen some beautiful cards of vintage players like Mantle, Ruth, Williams,etc.. come out of these modern sets. Kudos to the modern for including a Babe Ruth that evryone can afford!!

I really liked Upper Deck 2004-2005 Legends Classics. They did an outstanding job with this set.. used the best pictures of each player, great player selection, great autograph inserts. I collect vintage stuff but this stuff had me buying modern for awhile.

I don't even think I've even looked at a modern card from 2000 to present.

My favorite cards are the Yu-Gi-Oh cards. I brought my 10 year old nephew into a card shop on Saturday and he got so excited over the new series. I bought him a box of four packs. He ripped them open and shuffled through and made a big deal over the good cards and keeping his new ones separate from the old ones. I made him stop and show me the really good one he got. It was great to share that excitement over ripping packs with him.

Its not sports cards, but it is all the same. He gets excited at new cards, uses them to play with his friends, and generally keeps them all over his room and brings them with him. That is what card collecting was all about for me as a kid. Its great to relive it through him, even if it isn't baseball.

If we get back to sports, I think the 2006 Heritage will be my favorite, and it isn't issued yet. I like the previous Heritage sets, but I'm hoping for some great photography on the upcoming issue.

Heritage is great, and aside from the debate on hacking up old autographs, I really have enjoyed the SP Legendary cuts cards. The 00 Greats of the Game are fantastic as well. One of my favorites that seems to get completely overlooked was the 04 Topps Gallery inserts. I think it's an 80 card subset, but they have black borders and a refractor finish with the painted images. I think they look terrific. I was picking them up when they first came out but some of the SP's were a bit more than I was willing to pay for them. It is one of the few cards I collected because I liked the look as opposed to the "gamble" aspect. Heritage being the sole exception of course. image

As far as modern vs. vintage...If you enjoy what you collect, more power to you. I just had a conversation with a guy at the local show on Saturday..he wanted to show me his "work in progress" that he was so proud of... Turned out to be about 90 different Donruss Elite "Status" cards...These are all numbered to the players jersey number and he had the jersey number of every one of the players. Jeter 2/2, Bonds 25/25, Roethlisberger 7/7 etc. He paid quite a bit for some of them. He asked me if I thought it was stupid or whatever. I told him the same thing, if he enjoyed it, enjoyed the challenge and everything, than who cares what I think. Heck, I have PSA 9 rookies of "All Time" Buccaneers and AZ Cardinals. No offense to Bucs (Kevin) or Cardinals fans, but some would argue that I'm insane. But I enjoy it. (the collecting, not the arguing.) image

That is a classic shot! Very nice.

For the vintage guys - if you get bored or need a change or want something fun - this year's Heritage with the 1957 design may be just what you're looking for.

Plus it will give you a chance to really look at the players that you see on TV everyday!

Although I primarily focus most of my resources and energies on Topps baseball HOFers from 1955-1975, I also collect certified autos of baseball HOFers. I have every living HOFer inducted as a player and here's a few of my faves:

My favorite auto set: 2001 Topps Golden Anniversary Autographs (got both of these off eBay).
    imageimage

Really love this Ryan auto (2001 Donruss Signature Notable Nicknames #/100) -- can't beat the added nickname! Bought it Now on eBay.

Had to have this Mays auto (2001 Fleer Platinum). When I got back into card collecting at the turn of the millenium, I supported my growing habit by selling off my old SI collection and this cover was one of the ones I sold. Good symmetry to have my Mays auto on a repro of that cover...got it off eBay.

Love the annotation on this 2001 UD Hall of Famers auto-jersey. Has Reggie's number and HOF induction date -- I've only seen one other with both. Got it off eBay.

My best-ever "pull" -- from this year's Topps Heritage. The only modern set that I do, looking forward to next year's riff on Topps '57 design (especially now that Mantle is back in the Topps fold!)

I forgot about those 01 Golden Anniversary autos, those are some great looking cards. I had the Bonds out of that set, it took me forever to find.
    Thanks for sharing those pics.

Looking for a Glen Rice Inkredible and Alex Rodriguez cards

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned sp authentic. To me, cards from those sets have the most eye appeal, but I'd have a tough time nailing it down to one specific card or set.
