Can someone please tell me what the doubling is on the headdress
of this 1878 7/8 tailfeather is? It does not look like strike doubling
to me.

yes some stars are doubled. I'll see if I can shoot it. I have a qx5 scope here.

VAM 38 has the largest shift in Liberty.....need pictures of the tail feathers. Your pictures match the ones of Liberty doubling in the Encyclopedia of Morgans and Peace Dollars (VAM).

It looks like a VAM 38 that I own. It even has the same die scratch through the Y in LIBERTY. Here are some photos of my coin for comparison.

I just picked up the VAM BOOK on e-bay. I have about
60 more Morgans to look up and try to grade. I will
probably send them off to PCGS when I'm done. Joe
