ebay seller basically accused me of lying

gtstanggtstang Posts: 1,778 ✭✭✭✭✭
won the coin on 11/4 and paid immediately. I let the seller know after a week that i hadn't received it yet and asked when he shipped. He replied on the 7th and to let him know when it arrives.
as of today still no coin so i email him again to tell him. He did issue refund and half of shipping with a note saying that he "thinks i did get the coin but thats ok he'll do the refund". It was a $10.49 transaction.
It just peeves me that he accused me of lying and basically stealing over 10.49

Sorry people but i just needed to vent on this.

    Who is the seller?

Assuming we're getting the entire story, it's very childish on the seller's part.

  • If it was me, I would just remember that he doesn’t know me. There are characters on eBay that would pull something like this. I would stay in contact with him and if the coin does shoe up, tell him immediately and ask his preference for payment. You might build a great business relationship by being the bigger man. You haven’t done anything wrong.

I have had 1 coin take 2 weeks to get to me before.
I just didn't appreciate the accusatory remark made by the seller and i did email him back to let him know that.
I just got another email back from him and he apoligized.

I wouldn't be the first to leave feedback since he sounds like he thinks you're a thief and may neg you after you leave a possitive. He has probably already blocked you from his future auctions.

awww don't be so hard on the guy or girl.

So far to date, I have had a few items not show up to customers. In a couple of cases, I had replacements and the items were not REAL expensive. On another, the guy wanted all the items shipped in ONE container. The items got lost , I got accused and Negged, but the funny part is : I gave the guy back his money PLUS a couple of bucks just to ROUND UP and the items (four Medals, he won at a cost of 9 cents with $12 shipping to SPAIN) were not even a big deal.

Do I believe he got the items ? I want to believe every postman could marry my daughter.... but let's be honest. Someone got those items and probably not the ebay user I sent them to.
One thing we cannot do is control the safety of an item once it leaves our possession. Sadly, the item in question for you, Stang, is under ten bucks, but still, it warrants using a "guaranteed" delivery, i.e. Signature Confirmation, Insurance, C.O.D. or however one chooses to guarantee shipment.

I am sorry he thinks you got the items, but keep in mind, he is out the items, the money, his time and overall it is a LOSS for him more than it is for you. I would just write him back and say : "hey, I am sorry you took it in the shorts on the deal, but I assure you, I did not receive these items".

I have learned the hard way that increasing my shipping costs up by $1.30 also pays for "signature confirmation" even if the seller doesn't want insurance.

Anyway, if you find my feedback, you can see where a buyer not only accuses me of NOT SENDING ITEMS, I also STOLE HIS MONEY image... now that is funny.

Okay, before we send the lynch mob out on ebay sellers here, let's consider a seller's frustration when the transaction isn't completed. He may have rushed to judgement, but cut him some slack. Currently I have about 13 items in the "delivery stages" I check USPS and I am still waiting to see what happened to TWO WIDE AM cents I sent out on the 6th of November. All the other items that went out that day have been delivered. I am sure in a couple days I will be hearing from a buyer ! Thankfully I have a couple more WIDE AM Lincolns..... Just in case image

After the September 11, attacks on the Trade Towers, some packages I sent took over 30 days to get to their repsective places. In fact, I had already issued a refund to one customer and then two days later, the sent the payment again because the package had just arrived.

Sometimes the mail does take a while. I sold a DVD recently on eBay that took a full month to arrive. I was all prepared to write it off and refund the buyer when they wrote me and said 'guess what? it's here!'. Assuming he did in fact send the coin, it wouldn't surprise me if it showed up in a week or two.

I wouldn't give anybody a refund before 3 weeks. I've had a few coins I've mailed not show up until then.

If first class mail gets mixed in with parcel post, it goes by truck and can sit a number of different post offices along the way.

I'm a little confused about your story

A week after 11/4 would be 11/11. If he replied on the 7th does that mean you contacted him 3 days after the auction looking for your coin?

I mailed on Nov 8, first class, a roll of coins from PA and the buyer in TX emailed me that they arrived today.

That's why they need to increase postage rates - so service will improve...

Don't let it bother you, unless you get negative feedback. I've had that kind of problem a lot. Sort of. Usually it's buyers that accuse me of lying.

I [sic] asked "when he shipped?" He replied, "on the 7th"

Ah, I see. Still that is only 9 business days, my guess is it will show up next week.

I've shipped over 4,000 coins and fortunately I have never had to file an insurance claim for something I’ve mailed.

Unfortunately, I’ve given refunds to about 8 people who “claimed” image they didn’t get their coins (all under $50). But one guy did send me a check back after his coin finally arrived a month after being mailed.

But overall, I think the post office does a great job, considering the volume they handle.

I sent a house payment once that took 7 months to get to it's destination, which was about 35 miles up the road

  • Weird things do happen!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a high grade coin from a very well known firm and after 10 days, sent an email asking if they had received my check and the shipping status of the coin. the employee of the seller replied that the coin had shipped two days prior to my calling.

After another week went by, I called the firm and the owner answered the phone. After discussing the issue, He found that the coin had not shipped...He also said, " It is my fault, as I am in charge of shipping". I received the coin today via express mail!!!

Goes to show that S$it happens in the best of circumstances.image
